WASHINGTON, DC: The United States administration’s cryptic penguin posts referencing President Donald Trump's Greenland "framework" negotiations have intensified.

The White House has doubled down on its usage of the viral "nihilistic penguin" meme in its latest post.

The Department of Education (DOE) and the Department of Transport (DOT) Secretary Sean Duffy also hopped onto the penguin posting bandwagon.

These posts come after President Donald Trump claimed he secured a "framework" for the island during his recent trip to the Davos summit.

WH doubles down against Danish critics

The White House had posted an image of Trump walking with a penguin that was carrying the US flag, apparently to plant the star-spangled banner on Greenland's territory.

The post was a take on the nihilistic penguin meme that comes from a documentary clip showing a penguin abandoning its colony to march inland across Antarctica toward certain death in the mountains.

The footage of this penguin gained traction on Reddit and YouTube for its eerie symbolism of futility.

On X, many people criticized the White House's post, mocking the administration for not knowing that penguins are not found near the North Pole, but live around the South Pole.

On Saturday, January 24, the White House doubled down on the original post, reposting it with a caption that read, "The penguin does not concern himself with the opinions of those who cannot comprehend."

The latest post appears not only to be addressing the criticism the original AI-generated image received, but also the broader criticism Trump has faced over talk of annexing Greenland and deploying measures such as tariffs and use of military force.

DOE, DOT joins the penguin trend

Meanwhile, the DOE also got involved. It posted a picture of penguins sitting at wooden school desks in a semi-circle.

In the image, a person appears to be teaching the flightless birds, and the post was captioned, “Educate the penguin.”

It is unclear what the post is alluding to. Similar criticism about penguins not living in Greenland followed, though.

Furthermore, Transport Secretary Sean Duffy also added to the trend by posting a video of himself walking through the snow with a penguin while a plane flew by with an American flag.

The video included the words, "It was never about the climate. It’s about transportation," and was captioned, “We are all the penguin.”

Duffy repurposes the meme's "doomed march" symbolism to mock climate change regulations as distractions from core infrastructure priorities like roads, aviation, and trucking.

The plane and flag also evoke aviation freedom; "never about the climate" echoes his real actions, like slashing Biden-era greenhouse gas rules delaying highway projects under Trump.

Trump and NATO’s framework halts Arctic tariffs

It is to be noted that during his trip to Davos, Trump met with North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) Secretary-General Mark Rutte and declared he had reached a "framework of a future deal with respect to Greenland."

Following the creation of this framework, Trump agreed to remove the tariffs he had previously threatened to impose on Denmark and seven other European nations.

While flying back to Washington aboard Air Force One, Trump told reporters that the US does not need to pay a traditional purchase price for the island under this new arrangement.

"We can do anything we want. We can do military," Trump stated during a press gaggle, without providing further details.

He then added that the US will face no expense except for the "Golden Dome" defense system.

He mentioned that per the framework under negotiation, the US will work in conjunction with NATO, which he said "is really the way it should be."
