WASHINGTON, DC: Marco Rubio's defense of Donald Trump against claims that he had fallen asleep during a White House event almost immediately hit a snag as the president was once again caught appearing to doze off on camera.
Trump, who will soon be the oldest sitting president, let his eyes rest for a questionably prolonged blink during an Oval Office meeting on Thursday, June 04, where he announced a billion-dollar cash injection to the coal industry.
Trump caught sleeping again
After railing on his usual topics of windmills, his war in Iran, and affordability during the briefing, the 79-year-old President settled behind the Resolute Desk.
As the briefing dragged on, his blinks grew heavier, eventually turning into long stretches with his eyes shut, giving the appearance that he was drifting away from the room around him.
The apparent dozing occurred even as Energy Secretary Chris Wright delivered his remarks in a raised voice, standing beside Trump and gripping his chair.
When reached for comments, the White House spokesperson issued a recycled statement, brushing off the sleeping visuals as a mere ‘conspiracy theory’.
“President Trump is the sharpest, most accessible, and energetic president in American history,” White House spokesperson Davis Ingle told the Daily Beast.
“While the deranged and failing Daily Beast has their lightweight, glue-sniffing ‘reporters’ push baseless conspiracy theories — President Trump is working around the clock to make our country greater than ever before,” the statement continued.

Trump fell asleep again during a public event in the Oval Office today.
He now falls asleep at virtually every public event where he’s seated. We can only imagine what happens when the cameras aren’t there.
The president is clearly unwell.

Marco Rubio makes case for Trump’s nod offs
The President’s yet another doze off moment came after his Secretary of State made a staunch denial of his apparent tendency to nod off in public.
Rubio was testifying before the US House Foreign Affairs Committee on Wednesday, when Democrat Congressman Ted Lieu asked him if he’d been at “more than one meeting where President Trump has fallen asleep.”
“That’s false. That’s false. I’ve never seen him fall asleep,” Rubio vehemently insisted.
“On the contrary, the guy doesn’t sleep, which is a big problem, because he calls me at 2 in the morning, he calls me at 5 in the morning, and you know, I like to sleep a little bit—maybe not 12 hours—but at least six... I don’t know what you’re talking about,” he continued.

Then Congress played a video.

Lieu has also not come to the briefing with a weak case. “I’m going to show you in a moment a video that shows you just lied to Congress,” he interjected as the committee was shown a video from a Cabinet meeting last month, in which Trump could be seen with his eyes closed for an extended period as Rubio gave a monologue about the war in Iran and talked up the president’s leadership.
“You are literally talking about issues of war and peace, and Donald Trump is sleeping right next to you,” Lieu said.
Rubio again maintained that he had witnessed no such incident, while expressing frustration that the topic was being raised during a hearing intended to focus on his department’s agenda.
