WASHINGTON, DC: President Donald Trump appeared to call for his predecessor former President Joe Biden to be jailed in a Truth Social post on Thursday, October 30.

Taking to his social media platform, the Republican leader wrote, "He is a CRIMINAL AND SHOULD BE IN JAIL. A MAJOR LOWLIFE AND FAILURE. An ugly person, both inside and out! I beat him badly, and love watching him squirm now."

His post contained a link to a Just The News report claiming that experts found an FBI memo that launched the January 6 investigation into Trump and his allies, dubbed Operation Arctic Frost, “was thin on evidence and legal justifications.”

It's important to note that while Trump didn't name Biden directly, the Just The News report was critical of Biden and former special counsel Jack Smith's handling of the probe. Trump has reportedly previously said Biden and  Smith "should be prosecuted" for their role in the probe.

Moreover, when the New York Post reached out to the White House, it "neither confirmed nor denied that Trump was referring to Biden or someone else."

FBI probe into Trump's alleged effort to overturn the 2020 election

According to GOP senators, in 2023, the FBI reviewed the phone records of several Republican lawmakers, including Sen Tommy Tuberville of Alabama, as part of an investigation into Donald Trump’s alleged effort to overturn the 2020 election.

The records show basic details such as the exact time and date of the calls, but not their content. The data covered several days during the week of January 6, 2021, when pro-Trump rioters stormed the US Capitol building, disrupting the certification of the election results.

The disclosure offers new insights into the investigation by the FBI and former special counsel Smith, which is now closed.

In August 2023, Trump was indicted on charges of conspiring to overturn the election results, but the case was dropped after he won the 2024 presidential election. This was in light of the Justice Department's legal opinion stating that a sitting president cannot face federal prosecution.

Donald Trump drew backlash from critics for suggesting that Joe Biden should be jailed.

Democratic strategist Ally Sammarco slammed the post on X (formerly Twitter), writing, “This is the worst case of projection I have ever seen.”

Another X user, Kaye Steinsapir, said, “This is revolting from the President of the United States. We are being led by a narcissistic sociopath who delights in cruelty and divisiveness.”

"Trump’s own words are an accurate description of himself. He’s a repulsive thug," one more remarked.

An individual fumed, "What a shame, I never would have thought that a sitting president could make such a speech."

"Trump really said that? I’m constantly surprised when he stoops lower. Only because I give his followers the benefit of the doubt. I hate thinking that people can be so heartless. You have to be to continue taking up for this guy," another tweet read.
