WASHINGTON, DC: President Donald Trump on Thursday, June 11, called for Rep Jamie Raskin (D-Md) to be expelled from Congress, escalating his long-running feud with one of his most prominent Democratic critics.

Trump echoed conservative commentator Mark Levin’s proposal to remove Raskin from the House and sharply criticized the congressman’s role in impeachment efforts against him. The comments came amid renewed debate over Trump’s impeachments and reports that allies are considering a move to expunge them from congressional records.

Trump targets Raskin over impeachment efforts

Trump’s criticism centered on Raskin’s involvement in the two impeachment proceedings brought against him during his first term and after the January 6, 2021, Capitol attack.

“Jamie Raskin, a Loser in Life, who worked endlessly during my First Term to impeach me, and failed miserably, wasting the Country’s money, time, and effort, will guaranteed be trying to do it again, despite one of the most successful Presidencies in History,” Trump wrote in a post on X.

The president also criticized Rep Al Green, another longtime critic who previously pursued impeachment efforts against him, and referenced Raskin’s work on the House committee that investigated the January 6 attack.

He spent time on the Unselect Committee of Political Hacks and Thugs, and was rebuffed on that, just as he has been rebuffed on Impeachment, and many other things. If Biden didn’t give him a pardon, he’d be in jail right now!” Trump wrote.

Trump concluded his post by endorsing Levin’s argument that Raskin should be removed from Congress.

“I agree with Mark Levin when he says to, EXPEL THE BUM. Congress can never be great with people like this, who suffer massively from Trump Derangement Syndrome (TDS), casting their vote of HATE!”

Levin had argued earlier that Raskin was “already leading a plot to impeach the President if the Democrats take the House” and urged Republicans to begin the expulsion process under the Constitution’s expulsion clause.

Levin Calls for Expulsion Process, Cites Constitutional Authority

Trump’s comments came after Levin posted a lengthy message on X urging House Republicans to pursue Raskin’s expulsion.

Levin argued that Raskin had led or supported several actions against Trump, including impeachment efforts, objections to electoral vote certifications, and participation in the House January 6 committee.

Republicans should move to expel Jamie Raskin from the House,” Levin wrote. “If he can continue to abuse our constitutional system and undermine our electoral process ... then take the necessary steps to charge him under the expulsion clause.”

Trump's comments coincided with reports that allies are exploring a congressional resolution aimed at symbolically expunging Trump’s two impeachments.

According to reports, House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-La) has expressed openness to considering such a measure, though constitutional scholars have noted that there is no formal mechanism for reversing an impeachment once it has occurred.
