Trump critic David Letterman to headline Biden fundraiser amid calls for POTUS to step down
HONOLULU, HAWAI: David Letterman will headline a fundraiser with President Joe Biden and Hawaii Governor Josh Green in ten days, signaling that the president's campaign is progressing despite continued calls for him to step down from the 2024 race.
The fundraiser, set for July 29, will be held at a family friend's residence on Martha's Vineyard, Massachusetts, as announced by Green on Friday, July 19.
Biden campaign set to host at least 10 fundraising events
The event will feature the celebrated late-night host, along with President Biden and First Lady Jill Biden. Additionally, the campaign plans to host at least 10 more fundraising events in the final 10 days of July, ABC News reported.
David Letterman hosted CBS's 'Late Show' for 22 seasons. This news comes as celebrities like George Clooney, director Rob Reiner, and author Stephen King are urging Biden to withdraw from the 2024 race following his poor debate performance on June 27.
Additionally, there is growing concern about fundraising support, as worried donors have expressed significant concerns about Biden's performance and the party's future.
Biden maintains that he is the most suitable candidate to defeat Donald Trump and has no intention of withdrawing from the race.
On Friday, while recuperating from Covid-19 at his Rehoboth Beach residence, Biden called for party unity and tried to shift focus to Donald Trump's agenda.
In response to the Republican's assertions, he expressed his eagerness to return to the campaign trail the following week “while making the case for my own record and the vision that I have for America: one where we save our democracy, protect our rights and freedoms, and create opportunity for everyone.”
“The stakes are high, and the choice is clear,” he said. "Together, we will win.”
Josh Green will host fundraiser for Joe Biden
Green is hosting the event amid increasing skepticism from lawmakers about Biden's candidacy.
Initially, it was reported that the fundraiser would take place at Green's residence; however, Green subsequently clarified that it would be held at a family friend's home.
Having a longstanding relationship with the Biden family—his wife's uncle was Biden's college roommate—Green emphasized that the choice to remain in the race is Biden's to make.
Green remarked, “We support the President, the VP and the Democratic Party, in good and tough times because he has been there for us as a family and a state.”
Josh Green has served as the governor of Hawaii since 2022, steering the state through the challenging times of the devastating wildfires last summer.
Supporters of Joe Biden express gratitude to David Letterman's endorsement
