HONOLULU, HAWAII: Governor Josh Green of Hawaii defended President Joe Biden amid scrutiny over his age and mental fitness.

Green, a physician, noted Biden’s sharp cognitive abilities, referencing his performance at a NATO summit press conference.

Josh Green’s comments follow a trend of Democratic leaders expressing support for Joe Biden, despite concerns from a handful of party members.

Green praised Biden's ability to handle complex policies and pointed out that age-related lapses are common for older individuals, including former President Ronald Reagan.

Green further commented on Biden’s sharpness, reacting to a clip of the president speaking at the NATO summit.

"He’s quite sharp," Green said on The Hill. "Look, an 81-year-old gentleman is going to have moments where they skip a word, where they feel exhausted — that was the case when we had Ronald Reagan as president, and he went on to two terms that are viewed as particularly successful by many."

Green also noted the challenges faced by both Biden and former President Donald Trump due to their age.

"You’re going to see bad days on the part of former President Trump also. These two gentlemen are old. Is that a surprise? No, it doesn’t take a physician to tell you that," he said.

Addressing concerns about Joe Biden’s ability to fulfill his duties, Josh Green praised the president's team.

"What I can tell you is that cognitively, he is quite able to put major complex policies together," the Hawaii governor stated.

Green also highlighted Biden’s hands-on approach during crises, referencing the president's visit to the Maui wildfire disaster zone, where he interacted with residents and assessed the damage firsthand.

Responding to questions about whether Biden’s team is isolating him, Green said, “Teams — of course, they protect their principal — they do that for Mr Trump, they do that for Biden, they’ve always done that for every president.”

He also drew a comparison to Reagan, stating, "Ronald Reagan, in his last two years, was completely surrounded by his inner circle, and mostly Nancy Reagan. And everyone felt that he had severe decline then, but he was still our president."

Democratic support for Joe Biden amid rising concerns regarding this physical and mental health

Josh Green’s defense of Joe Biden comes after a meeting with Democratic governors, where leaders expressed confidence in the incumbent president's leadership.

Despite this, some Democratic lawmakers, like New York Lt Gov Antonio Delgado, have called for Biden to step aside.

"I have immense respect and admiration for his [President Biden’s] deep and abiding commitment to the American people and our founding democratic ideals. He can add to his legacy, showing his strength and grace, by ending his campaign and making room for a new leader," Delgado wrote in a post on social platform X.

The debate over Biden’s fitness continues, with some social media users expressing skepticism.

"Of course, he does. It's why he needed directions when walking onto the debate stage," wrote one X user.

One suggested there was no proof that Biden is sharp saying, "There is no evidence of that."

Another commented, "Then release the Hurr tapes."

Amidst the mixed reactions, one scathingly remarked that Biden "does not understand how to win the upcoming election."
