WASHINGTON, DC: President Donald J Trump has officially appointed Vice President JD Vance as the nation's inaugural 'Fraud Czar', launching an aggressive federal campaign to root out what he describes as "massive and pervasive" theft of taxpayer funds.

In a social media announcement on Friday, April 3, that has sent shockwaves through state capitals, the president declared that Vance would lead a specialized team within the administration to investigate unprecedented financial crimes.

The administration has announced a new federal enforcement initiative focused on investigating alleged fraud in state-level programs, with Vice President JD Vance expected to play a central role in coordinating the effort.

In public remarks, President Donald Trump said the initiative will target misuse of federal funds and emphasized that recovery of such funds could have a significant fiscal impact.

Officials also confirmed that enforcement actions have begun in Los Angeles, marking the first phase of the initiative.

In outlining the directive, Trump said the effort would apply nationwide but identified several states, including California, Illinois, Minnesota, Maine, and New York, as areas of focus. He stated that federal agencies would review the use of public funds in these jurisdictions.

The administration has alleged that funds tied to federal programs, including pandemic-era relief, may have been misused. No detailed evidence or case-specific findings were released alongside the announcement.

Vice President Vance is expected to work with federal agencies and officials across departments to coordinate investigations and enforcement actions.

The administration has framed the initiative in part as a financial recovery effort, with Trump stating that reclaiming improperly used funds could contribute to broader fiscal goals.

Officials indicated that the effort will involve audits of federal grants and program expenditures, with a focus on identifying irregularities or violations of funding rules. The scope and timeline of the reviews have not been fully detailed.

No official estimate has been released regarding the total amount of funds under investigation.
