Trump fears he’s losing Marjorie Taylor Greene as she declines Rose Garden invite citing illness
WASHINGTON, DC: Once President Donald Trump’s fiercest cheerleader, Georgia firebrand Rep Marjorie Taylor Greene seems to be drifting away from the MAGA camp.
Trump is apparently concerned about his relationship with the Georgia firebrand. “What’s going on with Marjorie?” he reportedly asked two senior GOP officials, sources told NBC News.
Greene insists there’s no love lost. She still calls Trump her “favorite president,” but lately she’s been marching to her own beat.
The congresswoman has brazenly gone against the party line in the ongoing government shutdown. “They’re literally the reason why the government is shut down right now," she told NBC.
Republicans pin the blame squarely on the Democrats. Trump’s team even went so far as to tweak the White House website to feature a countdown banner reading, “Democrats Have Shut Down the Government.”
Marjorie Taylor Greene is breaking ranks loudly
On Monday, Marjorie Taylor Greene fired off a defiant post on X with respect to the shutdown.
“No, I’m not towing the party line on this, or playing loyalty games.” She added: “I’m going to go against everyone on this issue because when the tax credits expire this year, my own adult children’s insurance premiums for 2026 are going to DOUBLE, along with all the wonderful families and hard-working people in my district.”
I was not in Congress when all this Obamacare, “Affordable Care Act” bullshit started. I got here in 2021. As a matter of fact, the ACA made health insurance UNAFFORDABLE for my family after it was passed, with skyrocketing premiums higher than our house payment.

The shutdown, which began on October 1, started after Democrats demanded the budget include an extension of Obamacare subsidies. A week later, the bill failed to hit the 60-vote mark needed to pass the Senate.
Greene’s patience wore thin. “I’m not some sort of blind slave to the president, and I don’t think anyone should be,” she told NBC. “I’m elected by my district. That’s who I work for, and I got elected without the president’s endorsement, and, you know, I think that has served me really well.”
Chuck Schumer nods in agreement with Marjorie Taylor Greene
Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer actually praised Greene this week. “I think this is the first time I’ve said this, but on this issue, Representative Greene said it perfectly,” Schumer said Tuesday, referencing Greene’s post about the soon-to-expire Affordable Care Act subsidies.
Greene doubled down on X Wednesday morning. She pointed back to a 2023 60 Minutes interview, saying the reason she ran for Congress was seeing “the House and the Senate completely fail to deliver the agenda that we had all voted for,” citing the GOP’s failure to repeal Obamacare as Exhibit A.
“I want Republicans to actually govern the way they campaign and solve problems plaguing the American people,” she added.
Former New Hampshire state rep Tim Cahill replied to her X post with support, “We’re with you a million percent. Trump is just an elite that loves money and women. He thinks everything is about a deal or a merger. It’s him who turned on the people.”

It's him that turned on the people
Marjorie Taylor Greene's independence streak
While her words are grabbing headlines, Greene’s actions are also raising eyebrows. NBC reported that she was invited to the Rose Garden last month but declined, citing illness. Her office confirmed the reason, but that hasn’t stopped speculation that something deeper is going on.
As mentioned, sources told NBC that Trump has personally called at least two top-ranking Republicans asking, “What’s going on with Marjorie?”
That said, Greene’s independence streak extends beyond domestic issues. She’s also criticized US support for Israel in its war with Hamas and publicly disagreed with the Trump administration’s decision earlier this year to strike Iran’s nuclear proliferation sites.
During a July appearance on Real America’s Voice (where her boyfriend, Brian Glenn, works as a White House correspondent), Greene sounded off on the Jeffrey Epstein saga.
“I think the Department of Justice and the FBI has more explaining to do,” she said. “This is Jeffrey Epstein; this is the most famous pedophile in modern-day history. And people are absolutely not going to accept just a memo that was written that says there is no client list.”
