Trump gives Rubio two top jobs at once, bringing back a rare White House arrangement
WASHINGTON, DC: In a rare White House Arrangement, President Donald Trump officially signed a commission permanently making Secretary of State Marco Rubio the national security adviser, according to a White House official.
Following the departure of the US Ambassador to the United Nations and former National Security adviser, Mike Waltz, Rubio has previously served in the role in acting capacity.
Rubio to serve on top two positions in Trump administration
After official appointment as National Security Adviser, Marco Rubio becomes the first person to hold both roles at the same time since Henry Kissinger.
The development was first reported by MS NOW.
Rubio has been praised by many in the administration, including Trump, as someone who is able to juggle multiple responsibilities.
“When I have a problem, I call up Marco. He gets it solved,” Trump said last year after he tapped Rubio to replace Waltz in an acting capacity.
Along with Vance, Rubio’s name has also been circulated for the 2028 presidential race, with Trump candidly naming Rubio as his successor.

During the interview with host Kristen Welker, Trump officially dismissed the idea of pursuing a third presidential term, stating he was looking to finish his four years and turn the movement over to "ideally a great Republican."
When pressed on who could carry the movement forward, Trump explicitly named Secretary of State Marco Rubio and Vice President JD Vance as the top names, listing Rubio first.
Rubio says he has no plans to launch White House bid
Earlier this month, Secretary of State Marco Rubio dismissed speculations about his potential candidature for White House, saying he has no such plan.
“I don’t know what the future holds, but I have no plans at this time,” Rubio said in an interview with Colombian news station RCN, translated by NBC News. “I’m not a candidate for anything right now. And I’m 100 percent focused on my job, and I have to be because I have two jobs.”
