NEW YORK CITY, NEW YORK: Rep Elise Stefanik (R-NY) got into a heated argument with host Shannon Bream when the latter questioned her loyalty to former President Donald Trump on the May 19 episode of 'Fox News Sunday.'

Bream, according to Politico, cited a New York Times article when she asked about the Congresswoman’s changing allegiances toward the party’s presumptive nominee, a development that caught Stefanik off guard. This comes as her name is being floated as a potential candidate for Trump’s VP ticket.

Elise Stefanik gets into heated argument with Fox News host Shannon Bream over Trump

Upon being questioned by Bream, Stefanik initially slammed her saying, "It’s a disgrace you would quote the New York Times with nameless and faceless people."

Amid the war of words, the host pressed her on whether she had ever accused Trump of insulting women because of the leaked Access Hollywood tape, in which he bragged about grabbing a woman’s genitals in 2005. Stefanik, for her part, accused the Democrats of leaking the tape to the news media during Trump’s first presidential run in 2016 and reiterated her support for the former president.

“This is a false smear, and let me tell you a fact, Shannon. In 2016, I was attacked as the only elected Republican from the Northeast who voted for President Trump. Democrats spent hundreds and thousands of dollars attacking me for that fact. So to say that I didn't support him is just false. I have been proud to be one of the strongest supporters, going back to when he ran for 2016, which was when it was my first reelection to the House. I strongly supported him. He is going to be the next President of the United States. The American people know that, my constituents know that. And I am proud to be one of his strongest allies in Congress,” she stated.

This was in stark contrast to her earlier stance on the former President. As the New York Times article stated, Stefanik "loathed" Trump during the initial days of his first presidential campaign, telling a New York radio station that he was “insulting to women,” and that his candidacy would be a setback for the GOP in terms of attracting female voters. She mocked him at a party, called him a "whack job" over text, as well as demanded that he drop out of the 2016 race after the 'Access Hollywood' tape was leaked.

The conversation was brought to a close by Bream mentioning, "We know where you are today. Folks can go read that article for themselves. There are plenty of names, people who went on the record. And we’ll leave it there."

Elise Stefanik slams Joe Biden during her speech at the Israeli parliament

While addressing the lawmakers of the Middle Eastern ally, Stefanik had launched an attack against incumbent Joe Biden for withholding military aid for a week. According to Bream, the Congresswoman's actions could have been her attempt at auditioning for the spot of Trump's running mate.

“The world needs to know, and Israel needs to know, that the House Republican majority stands strongly with Israel. That there’s equivocation, this weak, failed leadership that we are seeing from Joe Biden, that’s not where the American people are, that’s not where the United States Congress is," shared Stefanik.

Responding to the address, White House spokesperson Andrew Bates stated, "As he has demonstrated, President Biden’s support for Israel’s security is ‘ironclad.' Unlike some figures on the right, President Biden did not rail against the Israeli government in the days after October 7, nor has he ever praised terrorist organizations like Hezbollah — and he will not be lectured by any person who was silent in the face of those offensive statements. What’s more, no one should ever confuse January 6th convicts who assaulted police officers with the innocent hostages brutally taken captive by Hamas on October 7th.”

Internet slams Elise Stefanik for retracting her own words about Trump

Reacting to the video of the Congresswoman's Fox News interview, a viewer wrote, "Stefanik is an embarrassment to all professional women."

"Stefanik is deranged," expressed another.

"Lying while smiling seems to be a talent among Republicans," shared a third.

"The truth is kryptonite to a conservative.....especially when it's their own words. They hate it when you do that to them," commented a fourth.

"Something really wrong with Stefanik," stated a fifth.

Another one slammed Stefanik, "Elise Stefanik is way out of her depth! She has even broken through the Peter Principle!"

Another user trolled, "It's a disgrace that you would quote my own words back at me and ask me why I either lied then or I'm lying now."

One user mocked, "Stefanik is dangerous to herself!"

Another one said, "Definition of crazy. She has abandon everthing inorder to possibly gain access to power. I feel somewhat sorry for her. It seems that this has happened to a number of MAGA ,women. So utterly insane. What happens the day she and others wake up?"
