WASHINGTON, DC: President Donald Trump now sees his 2020 election loss not as a defeat, but as a twist of fate that brought him back just in time to lead America into its 250th birthday bash.

“Now [Trump] says, ‘You know what? 2020 had to happen that way. It was providential,’” US Chief of Protocol Monica Crowley revealed to New York Post columnist Miranda Devine on the latest episode of 'Pod Force One', which dropped Wednesday. “It was because now he’s back, and he will preside over these incredible events.”

It seems Trump’s taken the long view, realizing that he might have missed out on overseeing America’s semiquincentennial celebration if he had stayed in office post-2020, the New York Post reported.

Monica Crowley announces 'a year-long celebration of America'

Crowley explained that Trump had initially written off the possibility of being president during the 250th birthday celebrations.

“[Trump] figured, well, after 2020’s election, he wasn’t going to be in office to see those events,” she said, pointing to marquee moments like the 250th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence, the FIFA World Cup, and the 2028 Olympics.

“America 250 is the one that is upon us now,” she said. “We are going to have a year-long celebration of America.”

Trump’s second term is packed with symbolism. Last month, he kicked off the festivities with a flag-waving parade in Washington, DC, to celebrate the US Army’s 250th birthday. Crowley said July 4 will officially launch a 12-month celebration culminating in the semiquincentennial in 2026.

One of the most anticipated events is a fleet of majestic vessels sailing into New York Harbor; hearkening back to the classic parades of 1976 and 2000.

“Of course, the East Coast is the central location of the American Revolution, so cities like Boston, New York, Philadelphia, and Washington, DC, will be critical,” Crowley explained, but added, “All 50 states in the Union have their own 250 commissions. It is going to be a massive celebration.”

Philadelphia, the birthplace of American democracy, is also getting its own dose of colonial flair.

“In Philadelphia, which obviously is going to be central to America 250, we have planned a mock debate in Independence Hall,” Crowley teased. “So current members of Congress probably going to take part in that. A lot of these things are still in the planning stages, but I can guarantee you a massive birthday party for America.”

Donald Trump tells Lex Fridman he 'lost by a whisker'

It's worth noting that Trump hasn’t exactly been zen about his 2020 loss.

As recently as May, he was still calling the election “RIGGED” and “[t]he biggest crime of all,” even though courts across the country didn’t find widespread fraud.

Federal judges tossed out dozens of cases, and even Trump appointees like FBI Director Christopher Wray and Attorney General Bill Barr publicly dismissed the claims.

But every now and then, Trump has shown hints of acceptance. Chatting with podcaster Lex Fridman in September 2024, he admitted he “lost by a whisker” to Joe Biden.

In 2020, Biden reportedly swept every swing state except North Carolina. But in 2024, Trump came roaring back and defeated Vice President Kamala Harris in all seven battleground states.

Clergy agrees Donald Trump’s survival was 'providential'

It's worth noting that 2024 was also the year Trump survived an assassination attempt during a campaign rally, a grim event that shook the nation.

Some clergy, including an Episcopalian bishop who once criticized Trump, are now calling his survival “providential.”

Trump himself seems to believe it was destiny. “Many people have told me that God spared my life for a reason,” he declared during his early-morning victory speech at Mar-a-Lago on Election Day.

“And that reason was to save our country and to restore America to greatness, and now we are going to fulfill that mission together. We’re going to fulfill that.”

Now, with a second term underway, Trump is going all-in on the red, white, and blue. Alongside America 250, his administration is preparing to host the 2026 World Cup in Los Angeles and the Olympics in 2028—which is also slated to be held in LA.

“We’re getting through the America’s birthday, we’re getting through the FIFA World Cup, but the Olympic Games are coming down the pike very fast,” Crowley said. “We will stay on top of it too with regard to the administration to make sure that the Olympic Games, just like America’s birthday and the World Cup, showcase America at its best.”
