Trump rejected Kimberly Guilfoyle’s Vatican bid as ‘non-starter’ before she clinched Greece posting

WASHINGTON, DC: President Donald Trump was reportedly horrified when Kimberly Guilfoyle, his son’s ex-fiancee and outspoken Trump supporter, floated the idea of becoming the next US ambassador to the Vatican before she quietly maneuvered her way into the top diplomatic post in Greece.
According to multiple sources cited by the Daily Mail, Trump immediately rejected Guilfoyle’s Vatican bid, calling it “a non-starter.” Instead, aides and allies began quietly shaping a path for the former Fox News star to secure a more fitting posting in Athens.
Kimberly Guilfoyle’s bid for Vatican post reportedly stunned Trump
The 55-year-old media personality, who converted to Catholicism as a teenager, was told early on that her image as a “glamorous conservative firebrand” made her Vatican pitch politically untenable. “It came out of left field. There was no way they were going to give her the Vatican. It wouldn’t be a fit, for many reasons,” a diplomatic insider told Daily Mail.

Sources say that Sergio Gor, a Trump loyalist and former director of the White House Presidential Personnel Office, worked behind the scenes to have Guilfoyle’s name added to the shortlist for the Athens ambassadorship, a position she ultimately secured. Gor, now serving as ambassador to India, is said to have played a critical role in swaying internal discussions.
Kimberly Guilfoyle’s diplomatic turn
Guilfoyle’s journey from television pundit to international diplomacy has raised eyebrows even among Trump’s staunchest allies. Once one of the most recognizable faces on Fox News, she co-hosted 'The Five' for seven years before abruptly leaving the network in 2018 to work for the pro-Trump America 'First super PAC.'

Her high-profile confirmation hearing in July lasted less than 20 minutes, with only brief questions about Greece’s role in the US–NATO alliance and its growing tensions with Turkey.
Kimberly Guilfoyle calls her appointment an ‘honor’
Despite the chatter surrounding her appointment, Guilfoyle has embraced her new role with characteristic flair. “Ambassador Guilfoyle wanted to serve as Ambassador to Greece since the president was elected,” said her spokesperson, Taylor Rogers.
At her swearing-in ceremony in late September, Guilfoyle stunned in an all-white pantsuit, smiling as she pledged to “strengthen ties” between the United States and Greece. “She’s in great spirits, even joking about brushing up on her Greek dancing skills,” a source close to her told Daily Mail.
It is the honor of a lifetime to be sworn in today as Ambassador to the Hellenic Republic surrounded by friends and loved ones here at the State Department. Proud to serve @POTUS and the American people in Greece! 🇺🇸 🇬🇷 pic.twitter.com/oSZiCC9lKJ

While the Vatican remains one of the most coveted diplomatic postings in Washington, a senior administration official conceded that “Greece is still a plum job and a better fit for Kimberly.”

The former prosecutor and television personality is set to move into the US ambassador’s residence in Athens before the end of October, succeeding Ambassador George Tsunis.
