Trump says ‘Biden, Harris screwed our country’ as US enhances vetting measures for immigrants
WASHINGTON, DC: Following the shooting of two West Virginia National Guard members near the White House, President Donald Trump accused the previous Joe Biden administration of "screwing the country" by allowing "unchecked and unvetted" immigrants into the US.
The current administration, led by Trump, has responded to the incident by indefinitely suspending the processing of immigration requests for Afghan nationals and announcing enhanced vetting protocols for all immigrants.
Trump blasts Biden team over immigration after DC shooting
President Donald Trump took to Truth Social to sharply criticize the previous administration following the White House shooting, blaming key officials for lax immigration policies.
He specifically targeted former President Joe Biden, former Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas, and former Vice President Kamala Harris, who was tasked with overseeing border security.

Trump posted, "Crooked Joe Biden, Mayorkas, and so-called 'Border Czar' Kamala Harris really screwed our Country by letting anyone and everyone come in totally unchecked and unvetted." His condemnation came amid an ongoing investigation into the background of the individual responsible for the attack.
DHS halts Afghan immigration amid vetting concerns
The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) echoed President Trump's sentiment, describing the previous administration's immigration policy as an "act of national self-sabotage."
Effective immediately, processing of all immigration requests relating to Afghan nationals is stopped indefinitely pending further review of security and vetting protocols.

The department stated that the attacker, identified as Lakanwal, should never have been permitted entry into the country.
In response, DHS has taken immediate action on a specific subset of immigration applications, announcing, "Effective immediately, processing of all immigration requests relating to Afghan nationals has been stopped indefinitely pending further review of security and vetting protocols."
Kristi Noem blames Biden vetting for attack, praises Trump’s new checks
Kristi Noem, the Secretary at the DHS, explicitly held the previous administration responsible for the death of National Guard member Spec Sarah Beckstrom.
She noted that the attacker's application process began under the Joe Biden administration.
Secretary Noem centered her criticism on the chaotic and allegedly insufficient vetting conducted during the 2021 Afghanistan withdrawal. She stated, "If you remember, during that operation, when Afghanistan was abandoned, people were just put on aircraft and brought to the United States.
The administration at that time said that they would vet them, but didn't do a thorough investigation."
She argued that the Biden administration’s approach was inadequate, saying, "They only checked names and a few data points, but President Trump has put in place biometric information, checking social media platforms, communications, and contacts.
The Biden administration never did that. He brought them in and said we would vet them later. This is how things like these happen," she concluded, asserting that the Trump administration’s new, extensive measures, including scrutiny of social media and communications, will prevent similar future incidents.
