Trump says Catholics voting for Harris 'should have their heads examined', Internet fumes 'no respect'

NEW YORK CITY: In a fiery post on Truth Social, former President Donald Trump didn’t hold back as he unleashed criticism on American Catholics who are considering casting their votes for Vice President Kamala Harris.

"Any Catholic that votes for Comrade Kamala Harris should have their head examined…," he declared on Monday, September 23, stirring the pot ahead of the upcoming Al Smith Dinner in New York.

Smith, a Democrat who served as governor of New York in the 1920s, was the first Catholic to receive a major party's presidential nomination.

He lost the 1928 election during a period when anti-Catholic sentiment played a significant role in US electoral politics. The annual dinner is a longstanding tradition where major party nominees come together, but this year, Harris will be notably absent.

Reflecting on past events, Donald Trump recalled his previous appearances and the sentiments surrounding them, particularly the 2020 dinner held virtually due to the pandemic.

There, he denounced the Democratic Party as “anti-Catholic,” a theme he revisited in his latest remarks.

Donald Trump pointed out that the spirit of influential Catholic figures like Al Smith, the first Catholic nominee for president, and John F Kennedy, the first Catholic president, would be present at the dinner in spirit.

”It was a virtual event in 2020, and I was delighted to speak to our Catholic friends that day and, of course, it was a HIGHLY SUCCESSFUL evening in 2016 when we were there in person with Crooked Hillary Clinton," he said.

"The reviews of my remarks were TREMENDOUS. It’s sad, but not surprising, that Kamala has decided not to attend. I don’t know what she has against our Catholic friends, but it must be a lot, because she certainly hasn’t been very nice to them, in fact, Catholics are literally being persecuted by this Administration. Any Catholic that votes for Comrade Kamala Harris should have their head examined…."

However, this isn’t the first time Trump has voiced frustration over Catholics voting for Democrats. Back in July, he questioned, “I don’t know how a Catholic can vote for the Democrats,” echoing a similar sentiment he’s expressed towards Jewish voters as well.

The GOP nominee has said the same thing – repeatedly – about Jews who vote for Democrats, stating they should also have their heads examined. Last week, he upped the ante by claiming that if he loses, Jews will be largely to blame.

Judge Juan Merchan scheduled Trump's criminal trial to begin on April 15, which would make it the first criminal prosecution of a former American president. Trump was charged with 34 counts of falsifying business records last year, which prosecutors say was an effort to hide a potential sex scandal, both before and after the 2016 election. Social media erupts as Donald Trump targets Catholics for supporting Kamala Harris

As former President Donald Trump faces mounting criticism for his recent comments about Catholic voters, social media users are firing back with a wave of scorn.

"Insults veterans Insults women Insults Jewish people now: Insults Catholics This guy has no respect for anyone except maybe himself," commented a user.

"He cheats on his wives. He was paying for it with a p00rnn star while Melanoma was home with his newborn son," said a second.

"I don't get why the Humans are voting for Trump, makes no sense. They need their heads examined," added a third.

"So just so we're up to date: Pissboy Donnie thinks Jews need their heads examined Pissboy Donnie thinks Catholics need their heads examined. He knows he's losing, and he's not handling it well," read a comment.

"Anyone else he hasn't disrespected yet?" questioned a user.

"The "THEY HATE ME!!" vibe...," penned a user.

"Trump was later heard saying if the Catholics don't vote for him, he's going to blame the Jews," stated another.

"Is there a group of people that Trump has not insulted? White male billionaires," commented another.
