Trump says Tiger Woods ‘doing great’ despite ‘life of pain’ after DUI arrest
WASHINGTON, DC: Donald Trump on Tuesday, March 31, reaffirmed his support for Tiger Woods after the golfer was arrested for a DUI in Florida, stating that the legendary golfer "lives a life of pain."
Trump clarified that the athlete "doesn’t have an alcohol problem" and is simply struggling with the physical aftermath of many surgeries.
Trump defends Tiger Woods, cites medical pain and negative alcohol test
During a conversation with the New York Post, Trump shared that he has checked in on Woods following his arrest in Florida's Jupiter Island. The president was quick to point out that the five-time Masters champion is dealing with a heavy physical burden from his past injuries.
Trump noted that "I think he’s doing great, he’s doing good," while emphasizing that the golfer faces significant pressure from his medical history.
He told the outlet that "He tested negative for alcohol, as you know, and he is under a tremendous physical pressure from his various ailments, you know, the back and the leg."
Affidavit ties failed sobriety tests to medical history
The situation began when deputies from the Martin County Sheriff’s Office responded to a rollover crash and noticed that Woods seemed impaired.
An arrest affidavit obtained by Fox News Digital states that deputies from the Martin County Sheriff’s Office observed several signs of impairment, noting that the golfer was "sweating profusely" and acting in a way that was "lethargic and slow."
Although Woods failed the physical sobriety tests, a breathalyzer test later showed a 0.00% alcohol level.
However, police discovered two hydrocodone pills in his pocket, which is a powerful prescription painkiller.
Woods has been open about his medical history, telling officers at the scene that he has endured seven back surgeries and "over 20 operations on his leg," and admitting that "I take a few" different prescription meds for the pain.

Trump stood by his statement and further said, "He lives a life of pain. He has a lot of pain. He’s an amazing guy. He’s an amazing athlete. He does have pain."
"He doesn’t have an alcohol problem, but he does have pain." While Woods was charged after declining a urine test at the jail, he has remained active in the golfing world.
It is to be noted that Woods is currently in a relationship with the president’s former daughter-in-law, Vanessa Trump, who was seen watching him compete in a tournament last week with her daughter, Kai Trump.
