WASHINGTON, DC: Donald Trump took to the social media platform Truth Social to criticize Henry Cuellar after the latter announced his intention to run for the Democratic nomination on Sunday, December 7.

Cuellar’s announcement came days after Trump issued a pardon for him and his wife, Imelda.

Trump says daughter’s letter prompted Cuellar's pardon

In the Truth Social post, Donald Trump slammed Henry Cuellar’s decision to run for election after receiving a pardon from him.

He wrote that the democrats “under the Crooked Joe Biden Administration” wanted to put Henry Cruellar and his wife Imelda in prison for 15 years and “never stopped” wanting to do it.

Trump added that the Biden administration went after Cuellar’s entire family and that they continued their agenda even after losing the 2024 presidential election.

“The Dems were vicious, and all because Henry strongly wanted, correctly, BORDER SECURITY!” he added.

The president also revealed that Henry Cuellar’s daughter had reached out to him and, based on that and in the “interest of justice,” he decided to give the Cuellars a “full and complete pardon.”

Trump further claimed that he had never spoken to the congressman or his family but felt good about fighting for a family that was “tormented” by “very sick and deranged people.”

Donald Trump then stated that only a short while after he signed the pardon, Henry Cuellar announced his intent for re-election from Texas as a democrat.

He wrote that the congressman was now working with the same “radical left scum” who wanted him and Imelda to spend the rest of their lives in jail and probably still did.

“Such a lack of LOYALTY,” he added.

FBI raided Henry Cuellar’s home in 2022 federal probe

In 2022, the FBI raided Henry Cuellar’s house as part of a federal probe. The couple was indicted by the DOJ in 2024 for multiple charges, including bribery, conspiracy, and money laundering.

The DOJ released a press statement on May 3, 2024, further detailing the charges. It read that according to court documents, since December 2014, Congressman Cuellar and Imelda Cuellar allegedly accepted approximately “$600,000 in bribes from two foreign entities.”
