WASHINGTON, DC: President Donald Trump could not help himself from apparently breaking a promise he made to First Lady Melania Trump while delivering his speech at the Department of Justice headquarters on Friday, March 14, reported the Daily Mail.

The event marked the first visit to the DOJ by a president of the United States in a decade. Former president Barack Obama was the last commander-in-chief to visit the department in 2014 - attending the departure ceremony of the then Attorney General Eric Holder.

What promise to Melania did Donald Trump break?

In his hour-long address, Trump called out the DOJ's functioning under his predecessor Joe Biden's administration, claiming, "We are turning the page on four long years of corruption, weaponization, and surrender to violent criminals, and we are restoring fair, equal and impartial justice under the law."

Trump was facing federal investigation for allegedly trying to overturn the results of the 2020 general election before it was dismissed following his victory in 2024.

Bringing up the subject, the 78-year-old admitted to being moved to break a promise he made to his wife, Melania, about cursing.

"I will not use a bad word. I promised my wife I would never use a bad word, but the case against me was bulls**t," he stated, before demanding that the "deranged" prosecutors and "scum" who investigated the case against him be arrested.

“These are people that are bad people, really bad people,” said POTUS. "The people who did this to us should go to jail.”

According to Metro, Trump made another move at the end of his speech that was reportedly disliked by Melania: his famous dance moves to the tune of 'YMCA'.

He had opened up about his wife's opinion of the dance in 2023, noting, "She said it’s not presidential, and I understand. She also has two things, that, and she doesn’t like when I dance a little bit to the music."

Internet trolls Trump for breaking his promise to Melania

Netizens reacting to Trump claiming he broke his word to Melania by cursing in his speech trolled him on the Daily Mail website. The following examples demonstrate their takes.

"Trump breaks 'promise' to Melania -- Not the first time," wrote a person.

"LOL. I'm pretty sure Mel is used to your broken promises by now, Donald," shared another.

"Omg this is so funny. Like she cares," jibed a third.

"He is such a loser," mocked a fourth.

"He also promised to be faithful to her. He promised grocery prices would come down on day one. They are still rising. His promises all have the same defect: they are all broken," observed a fifth.
