WASHINGTON, DC: President Donald Trump dramatically escalated his pressure campaign against Senate Republicans on Thursday, June 18. He publicly blasted members of his own party who refused to abolish the filibuster and warned that Republicans could be signing their own political death warrant if they failed to act.

In a fiery Truth Social post, Trump argued that Senate Majority Leader John Thune and GOP lawmakers were standing in the way of legislation he viewed as critical to the party's future, including the SAVE America Act.

Trump blasts GOP 'fools'

The president's latest broadside highlights a growing divide between Trump and Senate Republicans, many of whom remain reluctant to dismantle one of the chamber's most powerful procedural rules despite his repeated demands.

Trump's message was not aimed at Democrats. Instead, it was directed squarely at Republicans who he believes are blocking his agenda by defending the filibuster.

“Anybody who doesn’t want to Terminate the Filibuster is a FOOL, a very stupid one, at that!” Trump wrote.

The president argued that Democrats would have no hesitation eliminating the rule if they regained control of Washington and accused Republicans of failing to recognize the political stakes.

According to Trump, future Democratic majorities could use the absence of Republican resistance to dramatically reshape the political landscape, including adding new states, expanding congressional representation and restructuring the Supreme Court.

“The Republican Party will never win another Election,” Trump warned.

In one of the most striking remarks in the post, Trump predicted that he could ultimately become the party's final occupant of the White House if Republicans refused to act.

“I will, sadly, be the last Republican President,” he added.

Pressure mounts on John Thune and Senate Republicans

Trump reserved particular criticism for Senate leadership, directly naming Thune while urging the Senate GOP conference to abandon its resistance.

“Senate Majority Leader John Thune, and the Republican Senate, must not let this ‘carnage’ happen,” he wrote.

The president highlighted the debate as something larger than partisan politics, arguing that the country's future is at risk if Republicans continue defending Senate rules that require bipartisan support for most legislation.

“The Republican Party isn’t at stake, our Country is,” Trump said before issuing a final demand: “TERMINATE THE FILIBUSTER, AND IMMEDIATELY APPROVE THE SAVE AMERICA ACT.”

At the center of the dispute is the Senate filibuster, a procedural rule that effectively requires 60 votes to advance most legislation.

For Trump, the rule has become a symbol of legislative gridlock. He has repeatedly argued that requiring bipartisan support slows down key priorities and gives Democrats leverage to block Republican initiatives.

The president's frustration has grown as several of his policy priorities have faced procedural hurdles in the Senate despite Republican control of the chamber.
