WASHINGTION, DC: President Donald Trump may be granddaughter Kai Trump’s biggest fan, but he’s not ready to hand over the family golf crown just yet.

Though 17-year-old Kai, who secured a spot on the University of Miami’s women’s golf team last year, has already made a name for herself on the green, the US president has made it clear he’s still got the edge.

Trump praises granddaughter Kai’s golf skills but doubts she can beat him

In a recent video blog uploaded to her YouTube channel after attending a UFC match with her grandfather, Kai caught the POTUS, 78, praising her impressive skills.

"I just want to say that I play a lot of golf with Kai and she’s a fantastic golfer. She’s a scratch player, which is amazing," he said proudly, as Kai grinned and replied, "I agree."

Ever the competitor, Trump added, "I think some day in the not-too-distant future she’s gonna be much better than scratch. But she’s doing really well and she wins a lot of matches. And some day she’ll be able to beat her grandfather, but I’m not sure when that’ll be… it might be a long time."

Kai, who turns 18 on May 12, wasn’t about to back down. Flashing a playful smile, she turned to her grandfather and challenged, "One v one match? You wanna do a one v one match?"

Golf has long been part of Kai's story, but now that her grandfather is back in the White House, simple outings to tournaments aren’t quite so simple anymore.

With Secret Service agents in tow, the teenager opened up about the challenge of balancing her competitive spirit with her public profile.

"It's tough because you're in high school and you want to have your privacy. But I feel no matter what, I'll probably never have the privacy as other kids my age, so I kinda just have to deal with it," she shared in another candid video.

"Also, having Secret Service is a good thing because you never know what will happen. There's a lot of wackos."

Despite the added spotlight, Kai has leaned into her role with grace, and impressed many when she spoke at the Republican National Convention last year ahead of the 2024 election.

"To me, he’s just a normal grandpa. He gives us candy and soda when our parents are not looking," she revealed, painting a picture of Trump not as a world leader, but as a proud family man.

"He always wants to know how we’re doing in school. When I made the high honor roll, he printed it out to show his friends how proud he was of me."

Kai’s anecdotes charmed audiences, from golf course trash talk to heartfelt check-ins.

"He calls me during the middle of the school day to ask how my golf game is going and tells me all about his, but then I have to remind him that I’m in school and I’ll have to call him back late," she said.

"When we play golf together, if I’m not on his team, he’ll try to get inside of my head and he’s always surprised I don’t let him get to me. But I have to remind him, I’m a Trump, too."

Her loyalty to her grandfather was unmistakable after his victory in the 2024 election.

In a sweet message to mark his second term, she wrote, "No one works harder or cares more about the American people. Congratulations Grandpa, I love you! The future gonna be fantastic 🇺🇸."
