Rebel Wilson claims several women contacted her after she accused Sacha Baron Cohen of sexual harassment
LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Rebel Wilson finds it “comforting” that she has been contacted by many other women since she made sexual harassment claims against British comedian Sacha Baron Cohen in her memoir ‘Rebel Rising’.
Wilson, 44, has been slamming the 52-year-old actor for his alleged attempts to censor the book.
Before the ‘Borat’ actor and his wife of nearly 14 years, Isla Fisher announced the shocking news of their divorce on Friday, April 5, Wilson shared that she finds it comforting that several other women are also coming out with their stories. She also vowed, “The truth will come out.”
Rebel Wilson opens up on Sacha Baron Cohen’s alleged attempt to censor her book
The ‘Bridesmaids’ star is lambasting the comedian for “humiliating and degrading” her on their 2016 film ‘Brothers Grimsby’ sets. In her recently released memoir ‘Rebel Rising’, the Australian star chronicled the ordeals she had to face while filming ‘Brothers Grimsby’ in South Africa.
Recently in an interview, ‘The Pitch Perfect’ star slammed Baron Cohen after accusing him of trying to censor her book.
“Because it is hard to say something against somebody who’s high profile because they hit you with high-price lawyers and crisis PR people and all sorts of little tricks,” claimed Wilson in the interview, per The Sun.
She continued, "It doesn’t feel great when all I’m doing is sharing my story in my memoir, which I’m very entitled to do.”
"But I always think the truth will come out, which is why it’s great to have the book out now so people don’t just read the headlines but can read the actual chapter,” continued the ‘Senior Year’ star.
However, it is not known whether the said women have accused Baron Cohen of similar inappropriate behavior.
In her memoir, Wilson shared that she had been asked to perform a sexually explicit act which was not needed in the film’s plot. Naturally, she was left uncomfortable with the proposition.
In the interview, the mother-of-one is now opening up about her experiences, and explained, “It’s about kind of the worst professional experience I ever had on a movie and it was obviously with him.”
She also shared that the primary motivation for her to write the memoir because she wanted to share her side of the story which she could not do eight years ago.
Wilson revealed, “One of the reasons why I wrote it is because I felt shame at the time that I didn’t do more.”
She recalled, "What I should have done is left that set — the moment that first act happened, I should have left,” before adding, “I should have just gone back to the hotel, demanded to leave and never come back.”
“But we had the same agent at the time, and I was kind of, you know, talked around into, ‘Well, just be professional,” said the Aussie star before quoting the agent, “And if anything else happens, then you can leave.”
She, nevertheless, admitted that 2017’s #MeToo Movement has aided in a changed environment and made her bolder and more courageous.
“The great thing about having the #MeToo movement is that now if something happened like that, the 44-year-old version of myself, like would just get out of it, put them on blast publicly, because I won’t stand for that,” shared the star.
She recalled, “But back then, ten years ago, it was different, you know, there wasn’t intimacy coaches on set. It was a very different vibe,” and noted wistfully, "And often not great for women. I wish I knew back then, how to handle it.”
In the interview, the ‘Jojo Rabbit’ star held no bars while blasting the ‘Ali G’ star for refuting her claims of sexual harassment, saying, “When you write your truth, not everyone is going to like it.”
“And when someone is an a*****e, I kind of expected that he would come out and fiercely deny it, which is so weird when you’ve been there,” continued Wilson, and added, "Like you know, it’s happened. The book gets legally vetted before publishing.”
While the book has already been published in the USA, it will be released in the UK later this month.
Baron Cohen’s lawyers, nevertheless, denied her claims and said their evidence shows the ‘Isn’t It Romantic’ star’s allegations have “no basis in reality” since they are "false claims" and are part of a “cynical commercial ploy to promote her book”.
