Tucker Carlson says Trump 'will be gone relatively soon' ahead of POTUS' 80th birthday

WASHINGTON, DC:  During a recent conversation with Megyn Kelly, former Fox News host Tucker Carlson appeared to take another swipe at President Donald Trump while discussing the future of American politics.

A snippet from his appearance on 'The Megyn Kelly Show' is going viral, where Carlson took a swipe at the Republican leader, mentioning his age. The conservative commentator said that “he will be gone relatively soon” in a reply to the question, “What happens to Trump now?”

The discussion began with Megyn Kelly’s mention of Trump’s declining approval rating, as she suggested that the president has already lost the upcoming midterms.

Elaborating on the future of American politics and possible successors to the president, Carlson stated that “he [Trump] will be gone relatively soon” as the president turns 80 next month. The former Fox News host said that he doesn’t think things are going well and “it could be a lot worse.”

Carlson, who was one of Trump’s loudest media supporters, further suggested that he would prefer thinking about other leaders who are malicious and competent, as Trump is “incompetent.”

Referencing California Governor Gavin Newsom, the commentator said that while Newsom is not as transparent as Trump, he is a “competent” leader.

He further said that Newsom “will not ping-pong from one bad idea to another bad idea.”

Tucker Carlson apologises for 'misleading' people

The clip, which circulated widely online, comes amid Carlson’s increasing public criticism of Trump over the handling of the Iran conflict and broader foreign policy decisions.

Carlson, once considered one of the most influential voices backing Trump and the MAGA movement, has in recent weeks openly expressed regret over supporting the president.

He said he would be “tormented” for a long time over his past support for Trump and apologised for “misleading” people.

On an episode of 'The Tucker Carlson Show' , released around two weeks ago, he remarked,  "I want to say I'm sorry for misleading people. It was not intentional. That's all I'll say."

The former Fox News host made the comment during a conversation with Buckley Carlson, his brother and a former Trump speechwriter.

“You and I and everyone else who supported him — you wrote speeches for him, I campaigned for him ‒ we're implicated in this for sure," he said during the conversation. "It's not enough to say, 'Well, I changed my mind.' Or like, 'Oh, this is bad, I'm out.' It's like, in very small ways, but in real ways, you and me and millions of people like us are the reason this is happening right now.”
