'Two queens together': Internet abuzz as Lana Del Rey's Coachella performance features Billie Eilish
LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Billie Eilish made an unexpected comeback to Coachella 2024, delighting fans as a surprise guest during Lana Del Rey's headline performance on Friday, April 12.
Emerging from backstage, Eilish, who has previously acknowledged Lana Del Rey as a significant influence on her musical journey, appeared alongside her idol on a gilded balcony overlooking the main stage, as per Vulture.
Billie Eilish and Lana Del Rey perform several songs together
With a dreamy assist from Rana Del Rey, Eilish performed her 2016 hit, 'Ocean Eyes.' Their collaboration extended to Del Rey's 2012 song 'Video Games,' with the audience serving as their backup choir, creating an enchanting moment.
“Get the f**k out of my face!” Eilish joked as the song concluded, seemingly expressing her awe and excitement playfully.
Del Rey said about Eilish, facing the crowd, "This is the voice of a generation!”
Eilish has long been an avowed Lana fan, and when the two spoke to each other for Interview magazine last year, Eilish told her, "You really paved the way for everyone. People have been trying to look and sound like you since you first started. I talk about this with Finneas. You changed the way the music industry hears and sees music, and you changed the way people sing.”
The respect and admiration was obviously mutual. As in the same conversation, Del Rey recalled, “I remember seeing the first videos of you singing and I said to my managers, ‘She’s the one. This is the girl. She isn’t just talented. You can tell she’s kind.’ It didn’t feel like you were aspiring to be anything. It’s crazy to have that magical quality.”
This year, Del Rey has a lineup of multiple festival appearances across the globe. Her only other US date is set for Hangout Fest in Alabama in May, with her headline performance at Coachella being one of the highlights. Del Rey also made waves with the announcement of her upcoming album, 'Lasso,' which is expected to be a country record slated for release in September.
This will mark her ninth studio album following the release of 'Did You Know That There's a Tunnel Under Ocean Blvd,' which was published last year.
