Usha Vance’s team shrugs off missing wedding ring, says second lady just 'forgets' it sometimes
JACKSONVILLE, NORTH CAROLINA: Photos of Second Lady Usha Vance without her wedding ring during a Nov. 19 visit to Camp Lejeune have reignited online speculation about her marriage to Vice President JD Vance.
The 39-year-old accompanied First Lady Melania Trump to the Marine Corps base, where the pair met with service members and military families. But it wasn’t the visit that went viral—it was the close-ups of Vance’s bare left hand.
Within hours, the images spread across X, TikTok, and Facebook, with users questioning whether rumors surrounding the Vances’ marriage had finally reached a breaking point.
Usha Vance’s missing ring fuels marriage speculation
As the photos circulated, social media users voiced both concern and mockery. Some joked that JD Vance was “sleeping on the couch,” while others suggested the missing ring indicated marital trouble.
But Usha Vance shut down the speculation swiftly through her spokeswoman, who told People that the second lady is simply a hands-on mother of three.
“She is a mother of three young children, who does a lot of dishes, gives lots of baths, and forgets her ring sometimes,” the spokeswoman said, a line that only intensified debate about how public figures handle private moments.
The Vances share three children: Ewan, 8, Vivek, 5, and Mirabel, 3.
Viral moments and months of scrutiny on the Vances’ marriage
Usha Vance has been under the microscope for months, with commentators dissecting her public demeanor and Vice President Vance’s interactions with other women.
One notable moment came on Oct. 29, when Vice President Vance appeared at a Turning Point USA event at the University of Mississippi, introduced by Erika Kirk, widow of conservative activist Charlie Kirk, who was killed on Sept. 10, 2025.
Erika Kirk says nobody can replace her husband, Charlie Kirk, but she sees a lot of similarities between her late husband and JD Vance.

“No one will ever replace my husband,” Erika Kirk told the crowd. “But I do see some similarities of my husband in JD—in Vice President JD Vance.”
The remark set social media ablaze, and footage of Vance embracing Kirk intensified speculation further. Vance added fuel with a public comment about his wife’s religion, saying, “Do I hope eventually that she is somehow moved by the same thing that I was moved by in church? Yes, I honestly do wish that… I believe in the Christian Gospel, and I hope eventually my wife comes to see it the same way.”

Usha Vance, born Usha Chilukuri, is Hindu. The comment sparked backlash from critics who accused JD Vance of attempting to impose his beliefs on her.
The Vances’ history and the conversation around political marriages
Usha and JD Vance met at Yale Law School and married in 2014, long before public scrutiny followed them. While JD stepped into national politics, Usha remained largely private, practicing law and focusing on raising their children.
As second lady, she has become part of a larger public discussion about the pressures, expectations, and amplified narratives surrounding modern political marriages.
