PALM BEACH, FLORIDA: A video capturing an awkward interaction between Donald Trump and Melania Trump after the funeral of the former first lady’s mother has gone viral on the internet.

The clip shows Melania appearing to rebuff her husband’s attempt to accompany her in the same vehicle, leaving him briefly standing outside the car's door. This uncomfortable exchange has invited a deluge of speculation and snarky jokes about the couple’s relationship.

In the video, the Trumps are seen exiting a church near the former president’s Mar-a-Lago estate in Florida following the funeral service for Melania’s mother, Amalija Knavs, who died earlier in January while battling an illness at the hospital. 

Heavy limousines were waiting outside to transport the couple back to Mar-a-Lago. However, Melania seemed to have an issue sitting in the same vehicle as her husband.

In the clip, Donald walked behind Melania and attempted to open the rear passenger door of one of the limousines for her. But before getting in, the former first lady turned around abruptly, appearing to say something inaudible to Donald.

She got into the vehicle, while Donald pivoted and headed to a different car.

In the wake of her mother’s death, Melania released a statement saying she was in "deep mourning" and praising her late mother as "a strong woman who always moved with grace, warmth and dignity."

Having lived a private life since departing the White House in January 2021, the former first lady rarely makes public appearances. The ex-model emigrated to the US from Slovenia in the 1990s and became an American citizen after marrying Donald in 2005.

While Melania was laying her mother to rest, her husband has been gearing up for another presidential run in 2024 after losing his reelection bid to Joe Biden in 2020. She was notably absent from the Trump family’s recent Christmas photo taken at Mar-a-Lago, having been at her ailing mother's bedside at the time.

Soon after the video of the car door moment between Donald and Melania surfaced on the internet, social media was rife with comments from the netizens. 

One speculated, "She probably didn't want him there at all."

Another defended Melania, stating, "My husband often walks me out to the car when I go somewhere too. Doesn't mean that I'm not allowing him in the car with me! You're reaching. But when you have nothing else, I guess you have to lie!"

"Wow! She’s even sick of him. I don’t blame her. We all are sick of him," quipped a person, as someone else joked, "Love after marriage."
