Viral post comparing Hailey Bieber and Selena Gomez’s diamond engagement rings sparks outrage

LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Selena Gomez surprised her fans as she announced engagement to boyfriend and music producer Benny Blanco on Wednesday, December 11, in a series of posts on Instagram.

However, apart from her fans expressing happiness for the 'Wolves' singer, there were some who took their attention to her engagement ring and instantly compared it to the one her ex-boyfriend, Justin Bieber, gave to his wife Hailey.

Selena Gomez announces engagement to Benny Blanco on Instagram

Selena Gomez shared four pictures on Instagram as she announced her engagement. She captioned the post, "Forever begins now." Blanco was quick to comment on her post, "Hey wait… that’s my wife."

In the first photo of the slide, Gomez posted a picture of her hand donning the diamond engagement ring. In another photo, Selena is seen smiling while covering the lower half of her face with left hand that has the ring.

Notably, the couple, together since June 2023, publicly confirmed their relationship in December 2023. Benny had earlier expressed admiration for Gomez and hinted at marriage during interviews.

During an appearance on 'The Howard Stern Show', Blanco said, "That’s my next goal, to check the box. I have a ton of good kids; I’ve got a ton of nephews. I love being around kids."

When asked if he envisioned having children with Gomez, Blanco remarked, "It’s always a topic of conversation for me every day."

An X (formerly Twitter) account @fantasizemafia compared Selena Gomez and Hailey Bieber's engagement rings and wrote, "Initial reports are confirming that the engagement ring Justin Bieber purchased for Hailey Bieber costs four times as much as the one Benny Blanco bought for Selena Gomez."

The post showed a side-by-side comparison of the two rings as the user mentioned the price in the picture. The user mentioned $265,000 as the price of Hailey's ring and $70,000 for Gomez's ring.

However, the real price of Gomez's engagement ring has not been revealed.

Several internet users slammed the social media post for comparing the two engagement rings and writing in the caption that Hailey Bieber's ring "costs four times as much as the one Benny Blanco bought for Selena Gomez."

A user commented on the post, "Why the f**k does that matter? She’s happy that’s all that matters", while one added, "This is very insulting to compare the prices of the rings. I bet Justin is not even half of the man Benny is. How a man treats his wife is what counts . The cost of the ring means nothing to Selena . She is rich herself."

Another stated, "So? $70,000 for an engagement ring is still pretty expensive. Most people can't afford that for an engagement ring. Besides, all that matters is if they're with the right person. Why does everything they do have to be tied to each other somehow? The relationship ended years ago." A user wrote, "We don't care lol Benny did in one year of relationship what Justin couldn't do in almost 10 years."
