LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Britney Spears has responded to Sabrina Carpenter paying tribute to her during the 2024 MTV Video Music Awards.

The ‘Nonsense’ crooner performed a medley of her latest hits on Wednesday, September 11, while the stage was covered with astronauts and aliens, paying homage to Spears, whose music video for “Oops!” featured a journey to Mars.

At one moment, she kissed an alien before continuing with her performance, according to People.

Britney Spears took to her Instagram on Thursday, September 12, and - in a video, “Why is she kissing an alien onstage? I adore her. I love her to death. I didn’t understand that part. Why didn’t she kiss a girl?” she said supposedly referring to her famous 2003 VMAs kiss with Madonna.

“That was weird. But I also thought that the whole thing was kind of weird altogether " she said.

Spears continued, “This Sabrina girl, she said my name on the red carpet, and I thought that was kind of cool, because I forget I’m famous sometimes,” 

“Because I’m a mom, I’m kind of old, blah blah blah. But that was kind of cool… She said something and I was like, ‘Thanks, that’s cool.’ She made me cool!” the 42-year-old added.

Netizens gave mixed reactions to Britney Spears take on Sabrina Carpenter's onstage kiss. A few admired Spears for her old VMA performances while others claimed her opinion doesn't matter.

One user said on Carpenter kissing a performer dressed as alient, "The coloring tangent she randomly went on😭😭😭"

"Why is she not using her real voice..." the second asked about Britney's comic voice in the clip. 

A fan wrote on Britney's remark, "OMG?😭 She could’ve just appreciated her efforts and idc it was kind of iconic what Sabrina did."
