WASHINGTON, DC: The House of Representatives has unanimously passed a bipartisan bill, which will increase the US Secret Service (USSS) protections for major presidential and vice presidential candidates.

The move came after two assassination attempts against former president Donald Trump.

Historic moment for the US House of Representatives

The bill was also passed by lawmakers in a 405-0 vote on Friday, September 20.

It was voted under suspension of the House rules, which meant it required two-thirds approval to pass.

The legislation was introduced by Representatives Ritchie Torres (D-NY), and Mike Lawler (R-NY), after the first attempted assassination on July 13, at a Trump rally in Butler, Pennsylvania.

In the most recent attempt, Trump was allegedly targeted by a suspect, who was later arrested, while the former president was playing Golf in Florida.

Meanwhile, Progressive Rep Jerry Nadler (D-NY) reacted to the USSS bill, "I support this legislation because the Secret Service must be able to protect our highest elected officials and candidates. But this legislation will do nothing to make the rest of us any safer, or change the fact that gun violence continues to take the lives of more than 100 Americans every single day," reported Fox News.

After the first attack, President Joe Biden extended a heightened level of USSS protection to Trump, and even approved Robert F Kennedy Jr's request for USSS protection, who then fighting as a presidential candidate.

"That's a rare one. Unbelievable outcome. Let's not be distracted, TRUMP is the man for the job. He has done it before he will do it again, even better... VOTE TRUMP AS THE POTUS!" one expressed.

A user chimed, "Unity under pressure. Beautiful!! Who the would say no?!? You know what I mean, right? Right?"

"It's a no brainer....They should be fully protecting candidates that are running for President. Not sure why it would take two attempted assassinations for them to realize that," one expressed.

Another penned, "Wow, a unanimous vote? Talk about surprising! Love to see some good old-fashioned teamwork in Congress!"

"Look at that. The US government actually did something right. That almost never happens," someone else commented.
