In an emotional Instagram clip posted on Tuesday, August 6, MyKayla Skinner said, "I sincerely hoped that this topic wouldn't have to be revisited, but unfortunately things have really gotten out of hand lately."

"So, to Simone, I am asking you directly and publicly to please put a stop to this," she added.

The issues between Simone Biles and Skinner began when the latter criticized USA Gymnastics' Olympic roster in a since-deleted YouTube clip. In the video, she claimed that "besides Simone, the 'girls just don't have the work ethic' or 'talent'."

After winning team gold at the Paris 2024 Olympics on July 30, Biles responded to Skinner's remarks on Instagram with a pointed message, "Lack of talent, lazy, olympic champions."

Simone Biles says she is proud of MyKayla Skinner's apology

Although MyKayla Skinner issued an apology for her comments, she claims that she and her family have been subjected to intense cyberbullying.

"The last thing I wanted was to cause harm or offend our US Olympic Team. I know these women are incredible - the very best of the best. And almost all of them are my former teammates, who I have enjoyed very much cheering on the last few years," Skinner said in an Instagram video.

"I posted a video apology on Instagram and I followed up with a written apology and I sent individual messages to each of the women on the team. Only Simone had responded, and she told me that she was proud of me," she continued.

Addressing the online feud, Skinner said, "You guys can imagine my surprise last week when I was celebrating our team winning gold, just to see this all brought up all over again by a caption on an Instagram post."

"If Simone truly believes that I called our team lazy and lacking talent and that's how she really feels, I am really heartbroken over it," she shared.

"But not just heartbroken because it isn't how I feel… but heartbroken because Simone's latest [social media] post and others that followed it fueled another wave of hateful comments, DMs, articles and emails – hate that includes death threats to me, my family and even my agent," Skinner continued. "My family and my friends don't deserve to be caught in the crossfire here. They've done nothing."

Calling on Biles to help end the online bullying, Skinner said, "So, to Simone, I am asking you directly and publicly to please put a stop to this," she concluded. "Please ask your followers to stop."

"You have been an incredible champion for mental health awareness, and a lot of people need your help now. We've been hurt and attacked in ways that I am certain you never intended," she added.

Internet doubles down on MyKayla Skinner's plea to Simone Biles

As MyKayla Skinner pleaded to Simone Biles to tell trolls to stop bullying her and her family, netizens doubled down on the former gymnast's request.

"Mykayla Skinner and her family receiving death threats is absolutely unacceptable. What’s also unacceptable, is her using Simone’s mental health struggles and advocation to guilt trip her when her own comments could’ve impacted the rest of team USA’s mental health as well," a user on X wrote.

"You want HER to clean up the mess YOU made. Wild behavior," a netizen tweeted and someone commented, "Somehow Mykayla Skinner is making this about herself again like girl shut uppp and stop talking about it."

"Mykayla skinner saying 'build each other up, not tear others down' is really funny cuz she’s the one who called the girls lazy and said they lack talent," an individual remarked.

"Felt a bit bad for Mykayla Skinner in the first half of the video, but then she framed all this hate towards her as though it’s Simone’s responsibility.. girl… I believe you should’ve just ended the video with a sincere apology and case closed. Also, stop w the death threats!!!" a user tweeted.

"You are literally tone deaf. This is not Simone’s mess to clean up. Maybe take a social media break," a netizen commented.
