'We believe nothing': Internet divided as Buckingham Palace denies reports of King Charles' 'unexpected death'

LONDON, ENGLAND: The internet has been abuzz with mixed reactions following the denial by Buckingham Palace and the UK embassy in Ukraine of reports by Russian media claiming the unexpected death of King Charles III

'Fake News' about King Charles III’s death 

Earlier, several media outlets in Russia carried a purported statement from London that stated the King had unexpectedly died. It included a seal and signature.

"The following announcement is made by royal communications. The King passed away unexpectedly yesterday afternoon," the statement read, according to New York Post. 

The outlets in Russia, according to Daily Mail, wrote, "King Charles III of Great Britain has died at the age of 75, according to media reports."

Another Russian newswire, among several others, wrote, "Britain's King Charles III has died, Buckingham Palace reports. The son of Elizabeth II ascended the throne less than a year ago - the coronation took place on May 6, 2023. He was 75 years old."

"There is no information about this on the royal family website or in the British media," outlets reported further.

But the outlet later stated, "The fake news about the death of Charles III quickly spread and was just as quickly debunked." 



 

Debunking King Charles III's death hoax

The UK embassy in Ukraine debunked the news as a hoax following which the news was corrected and updated. “We are happy to confirm that The King is continuing with official and private business,” the palace issued a statement to the Russian state-run TASS news agency denying the report.

Similarly, the British Embassy in Kyiv shared a notice on social media that read, "We would like to inform you that the news about the death of King Charles III is fake." 



 

Rossiyskaya Gazeta, wrote, "King Charles III continues to carry out work and private affairs. Buckingham Palace said. Previously, many Telegram channels published unverified and false information about the death of the monarch."

Internet’s mixed reactions to the King Charles III death hoax

Meanwhile, the internet reacted to the buzz around Buckingham Palace. “This doesn’t mean anything. Unless Buckingham Palace officially offers a denial? Even a good lie as a denial? It’s just fodder,” wrote one user.

“God Save the King!” another user exclaimed. “Until we see it for ourselves we believe nothing!” another added. “How they get in this” wrote another.

“Gawd, all of these constant updates is exhausting! Can’t keep up!” another user wrote. “Who believes all these ludicrous theories/stories??? Honestly, what’s wrong with people?” wrote one more.
