LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences has unveiled the much-anticipated 2024 Oscars shortlists in a host of categories, honoring a multitude of films.

The annual shortlists, announced on December 21, include International Feature Film, Documentary, Sound, Original Score, Original Song, Makeup and Hairstyling, Visual Effects, Live-Action Short Film, Documentary Short Subject, and Animated Short Film, per Indie Wire.

Among these, the shortlist for Best Original Song has sparked a flurry of reactions on the internet. A common sentiment reverberating across social media platforms is 'Billie or Olivia deserve'.

Oscars shortlist for Best Original Song

Three songs from Barbie have made it to the Oscar shortlist for the best original song, as announced by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts & Sciences.

Two of these songs, 'I'm Just Ken' and 'Dance the Night', were co-written by Mark Ronson and Andrew Wyatt, with Dua Lipa and Caroline Ailin collaborating on 'Dance the Night'.

The third shortlisted Barbie song, 'What Was I Made For?' was co-penned by Billie Eilish and Finneas.

Others include, 'It Never Went Away' from 'American Symphony', 'Dear Alien (Who Art In Heaven)' from 'Asteroid City', 'Keep It Movin' and 'Superpower (I)' from 'The Color Purple', 'The Fire Inside' from 'Flamin' Hot', 'High Life' from 'Flora and Son', 'Meet In The Middle' from 'Flora and Son', 'Can't Catch Me Now' from 'The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes', 'Wahzhazhe (A Song For My People)' from 'Killers of the Flower Moon', 'Quiet Eyes' from 'Past Lives', 'Road To Freedom' from 'Rustin', and 'Am I Dreaming' from 'Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse'.

Winning an award is significant for artists, but the disappointment of going home empty-handed can be profound.

Some artists, like Oscar winner Mahershala Ali, relish the success, while others, like Britney Spears, are deeply affected by the loss.

Britney's sister, Jamie Lynn, once revealed that the 'toxic' 3c was so impacted by a loss that she expressed a desire never to attend the Grammys again.

Internet says 'Billie or Olivia deserve'
