Internet asks 'what about dessert' as Simu Liu dishes on unglamorous meals served at Oscars ceremony
LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: In a world of glitter and extravagance, a seldom asked question is what the lucky winners of the golden ticket to an award show are served.
'Shang-Chi' actor Simu Liu, 34, has now revealed how the stars are fed throughout the largest night of the entertainment industry each year, and it's not as glamorous as one might think.
Taking to Threads on Tuesday, March 12, Liu provided his official ratings for the munchies served during the Oscars event and its afterparties—from desserts to Wagyu meat.
Simu Liu rates food options at Oscars and afterparties
The 'Barbie' actor, who performed 'I'm Just Ken' at the 2024 Academy Awards with Ryan Gosling, shared a Threads post listing the best dishes from the star-studded occasion.
Liu rated the food offerings at the Oscars with a three out of 10, starting by noting that participants primarily received nibbles rather than a dinner.
"Oscars (3/10): jimmy stashed some soft pretzel and sour patch kids under our seats. it wasn’t glamorous but did its job," Liu rated the food, mentioning that host Jimmy Kimmel had given the celebrities some snacks.
'Jimmy Kimmel Live' wrote on their Instagram page, "We don’t like it when people are hungry, so Jimmy provided snacks for everyone at the #Oscars and included a donation to the @LAfoodbank for each one!" while posting a picture of the snack box.

Liu then revealed that his favorite Oscars afterparty was the Governors Ball. "Gov ball (11/10): this was insane. wood-fired pizzas, paella, wagyu, sliders, PEKING DUCK?!? i did nothing but inhale food the whole time," Liu remarked.
The Governors Ball party's 2024 menu was the best when it came to award ceremony cuisine. A lavish spread of food was served with an abundance of chocolate sweets shaped like Oscar statues.
The party featured an array of upgraded comfort food options, including pot pies, fresh pasta, tacos, and sliders made with Iberico ham. Wolfgang Puck Catering, who was also in charge of last year's cuisine, supplied the food for the ball, per Daily Mail.

A-listers are known to receive a favorite West Coast fast food dish at the renowned Vanity Fair bash, and Liu said it didn't let them down. "Vanity fair (7/10): ah the infamous party with in-n-out burgers on tap. can’t go wrong," he penned.
One of the most iconic aspects of the Vanity Fair Oscar celebration is the cuisine, which includes In-n-Out burgers on tap. Adwoa Aboah, Emily Ratajkowski, and Irina Shayk all posed for pictures holding their hamburgers, while Diane Kruger chowed down on one as she exited the event.
The 'Legend of the Ten Rings' actor divulged what was served at Madonna's party in his final Threads post, as well as whether he had any food left over. "Madonna (9/10): full spread of curry, rice, naan and samosas. i was simply too full lol," he joked.
