LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Jimmy Kimmel has provided some insights behind John Cena's unforgettable Oscars 2024 appearance and internet users were quick to react to it.

Following his Academy Awards hosting gig, Kimmel, 56, said during his monologue on 'Jimmy Kimmel Live!' that the body-baring moment from Cena came as Kimmel's team "wanted to do something to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Oscars streaker."

What did Jimmy Kimmel say?

"Remember the guy who ran naked across the stage?" Kimmel said according to People Magazine. "So I asked John Cena to present the Oscar for Best Costume Design with no clothes on, just an envelope in front of him."

Although the WWE legend was "very funny" during the bit, "Getting this on the air... of all the times I've hosted the Oscars or the Emmys or anything, no comedy bit has ever received more scrutiny than this one," Kimmel admitted.

"There were meetings and side meetings, there were emails and texts and phone calls. There were people were sweating; somebody was crying," he went on.

"Then once they realized we weren't gonna take no for an answer, there were intense discussions about the size of the envelope and whether we needed to Velcro it to John's body, [whether] we had to fill his crack and [have] socks. Various testicalia was discussed," Kimmel joked.

John Cena only had the category’s envelope covering his crotch

While appearing naked on Sunday, March 10, at the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood, California, to present the Academy Award for Best Costume Design, the wrestler-turned-actor had only the category’s envelope covering his crotch.

“We made sure that, for all intents and purposes, he looked like a Ken doll up front,” Walt Disney Television executive VP Rob Mills told Variety.

Cena’s “crack,” Mills added, “was covered in the back and then the envelope was Velcro-ed on there so it wouldn’t fall. But beyond that, he was naked.”

“A bulge cannot be showing, and you can’t show crack” when it comes to the Federal Communications Commission’s rules about what can be aired on live television, per the executive.

Internet reacts to Jimmy Kimmel's disclosure

Internet users reacted quickly after Kimmel spilled the beans about Cena's hilarious appearance during the Oscars.

One user tweeted, "Well, tbf, we didn't actually see John Cena's d***, soo...."

Another one said, "I'm sorry, I didn't watch the Oscars the other day, but what the heck has it become? Why is John Cena walking up on stage presumably b*** naked (apparently not actually naked but still) and why is Jimmy Kimmel making jokes about Robert Downey Jr's past? That just ain't okay, man."

One seemingly disappointed user opined, "This moment of Jimmy Kimmel and John Cena in the #Oscars I don't know if they were recreating a moment from the 70s or a joke in bad taste towards women who were victims of sexual abuse and he said this like this: 'the male body is not a joke' 'mine is no', it's not."

"Jimmy Kimmel's fine motor skills are as impressive as John Cena's physique," tweeted one while another said, "He's probably waxed."
