WASHINGTON, DC: The White House is reportedly spending nearly $200,000 to clean the premises before President-elect Donald Trump takes office in January 2025, TMZ reported on Saturday, December 7.

According to the publication, tidying up during the transition period is one of the norms, as Trump had issued a similar order at the end of his first term in 2020 when incumbent Joe Biden was about to be instated in the Oval Office.

Breakdown of Biden administration's spending to clean White House

The Biden White House has hired professionals to do a deep clean of the West Wing, East Wing, and the Eisenhower Executive Office Building next door, as revealed by federal financial documents obtained by TMZ. The project is estimated to cost a substantial amount of $140,930 and began last month ahead of Thanksgiving.

An additional $46,800 has also been earmarked in expenses to thoroughly clean the carpets in the previously mentioned areas, as the administration deemed it to be necessary before the inauguration of the new government in 2025.

The report points out the significant increase in the cost of cleaning the White House over four years. Back in 2020, the Trump administration had spent north of $127,000 for the Inaugural cleaning, and a little over $44,000 just for the carpets.

The uptick in cost is speculated to be a result of inflation, an issue that hurt the Democrats in the November election.

Internet trolls Biden administration over expensive cleaning

Trolls on the social media platform X (formerly Twitter) had a field day mocking the Biden administration over their cleaning order. The following tweets demonstrate their takes.

A user said, "The real house cleaning starts Jan 20."

"200k. These people money launder in ways I never considered," jibed another.

"Going to take a lot more to get that stink out," shared another.

"Did Joe really leave it in that bad of shape?" added a user.

"Most of the 200k is paper shredders," quipped yet another.
