PARIS, FRANCE: Equestrian rider Laura Kraut, 58, became the oldest US Olympic medalist in 72 years as she clinched silver with her team on Friday, August 2. 

Earlier it was Everard "Ducky" Endt who won a sailing gold medal in 1952. He was 59 when he participated in the Summer Olympics in Helsinki, as reported by The Guardian.

Kraut won silver as part of the US equestrian jumping team, which included her teammates Karl Cook and McClain Ward, and the horses Baloutinue, Caracole de la Roque, and Ilex.  

Great Britain won gold while France took a bronze medal in the team jumping final.  

It was Kraut's third medal in team jumping as she bagged gold in 2008 at the Beijing Olympics and silver at the Tokyo Olympics in 2021. 

Who is Laura Kraut's partner? 

Laura Kraut is currently in a relationship with Nick Skelton, a British former equestrian and seven-time Olympian. 

Shelton won individual showjumping gold in 2016 at the Rio Olympics and secured a team gold at the 2012 London Olympics.

Kraut, who started riding lessons at three, once told Federation Equestre Internationale, "I think the beauty of our sport and probably any walk of life, business, sport, or what have you - is gaining knowledge from other people, and Nick is a wealth of knowledge and I continue to learn from him every day."

She continued, "I would really credit Nick with maintaining such healthy competition. He is retired now, but when we were competing constantly against each other - we were both in the ring with the goal to win."

"But, if he didn’t win, or if I didn’t win, there was never any gloating or any pouting - he was the kind of person to come out of the ring if he had won or even if he hadn’t won, and 10 minutes later he was on to the next. We would have fun and joke with each other, but it was always healthy competition," expressed Kraut. 

The 58-year-old also mentioned, "I think you can sometimes overdo studying and thinking about your success and failures and I think Nick set such a good example of how to accept the results and move on from them positively."
