NEW YORK CITY, NEW YORK: Whoopi Goldberg faced the ire of the Internet as she lashed out at her co-host Alyssa Farah Griffin on the Monday, December 2 episode of 'The View' after she criticized President Joe Biden over his move to pardon his son, Hunter Biden.

On Sunday, the outgoing POTUS announced that he had decided to grant a "full and unconditional pardon" to the first son, who was convicted on federal gun and tax evasion charges. It covers any crime he may have committed between January 2014 and December 2024.

The move came as a shock to many, as the 82-year-old had in the past repeatedly promised he would not grant clemency to his son as "no one was above the law."

Griffin took issue with Biden "lying" to the public about his intention to pardon his family member and argued that such behavior further deteriorated people's faith in the country's institutions.

Introducing the subject on the talk show, Whoopi Goldberg maintained that issuing a pardon was "a president's prerogative," and pointed out the substantive number of pardons issued by President-elect Donald Trump during his first term.

"I'm not sure why the pearl-clutching is happening now...It seems kinda foolish. You kind of knew he was going to do it, given all that's happened, but maybe I'm just kooky," she noted.

While co-hosts Sunny Hostin and Ana Navarro were supportive of Biden's action, Griffin held a different view, arguing that it "feeds the notion to a lot of this country that there's simply a different set of rules for folks in power."

"I take issue with lying about it," Griffin stated of Biden's decision to pardon his son. "I wanted to ask (Biden) here when he came on ‘The View,’ but the thought was he said so many times he wasn’t going to pardon him. That, to me, is lying to the public."

She further expressed, "I felt bad for Karine Jean-Pierre; she had to say he wasn’t going to pardon him. That’s why they don’t trust Washington or politicians and I know a lot of us like Joe Biden, but I find it disappointing and bad for our institutions."

As Griffin said, "I respect it as a parent. I understand why he would do it, but I wanted to understand why lie about it for so long?" Goldberg interjected, "I would stop calling it a lie."

In turn, the former White House aide questioned, "Why repeatedly say you’re not going to, and you do? The half of the country that doesn’t support Biden and doesn’t get to have phone calls and they’re looking at a system that only benefits the people who are in power. What precedent does that set?"

However, Goldberg was not swayed from her stance and argued that Biden changed his mind about letting off Hunter after Trump won the presidential election. She remarked, "I think he said, ‘Well, why am I busting my behind to stay straight and do this when nobody is? When no one else is?'"

"I can’t believe that this is what’s freaking people out. I’m noticing the man who would not normally be able to even vote for president is the president," the EGOT winner said while concluding the discussion.

Internet slams Whoopi Goldberg for defending Joe Biden's decision to pardon Hunter Biden

Netizens seethed at Whoopi Goldberg after she came to the defense of President Joe Biden's decision to pardon his son, Hunter Biden, despite his previous promises.

One wrote, "Whoopi is an enormous idiot if she thinks that just because she says that Biden didn’t LIE that anyone else will believe her or care about her INSANE raves. He lied and she lies. She is not fit for TV," and another exclaimed, "This show really is the worst. Goodnight to legacy media. It's been fun!"

"You can't expect anything more from Whoopie and @TheView. They have no clue about the tax investigation, how it's tied to Joe Biden and influence peddling, and now it's stopped because Joe was covering his tracks," claimed an individual.

"Hypocrites pointing fingers at hypocrites. Corruption right and left, top to bottom. Integrity is enforcing the law with family, friends and allies as much as with enemies and strangers," expressed another.

"Oh, no don’t clutch any pearls now!" remarked one more, with another saying, "There's no justification for the pardon. It's simply a father protecting his son and circumventing justice, and possibly protecting his own self. What will they find next year as far as transactions from Ukraine to shell companies?"
