Whoopi Goldberg recalls 'begging' Christian Siriano for a dress
“I called and begged him... I was one of the first! I begged him because I saw what he did, and I was like, ‘Please help me!’” Whoopi Goldberg shared, revealing the vulnerability behind her fashion request.
Siriano, who had not yet opened a studio, rose to the challenge, creating a stunning black high-low gown with delicate floral accents for Goldberg's appearance at the prestigious event.
Siriano, now a celebrated designer at 39, fondly remembered the experience. “When Whoopi called, I didn’t even have a studio. She was hosting the Tonys, and it was a struggle, but they looked great in the end,” he reflected. Over the years, Goldberg has continued to wear Siriano’s designs for various high-profile occasions.
Among the memorable pieces Siriano crafted for Goldberg was a striking blue angular dress for her 2021 Variety cover and a bold, pocketed off-the-shoulder gown for the 2018 Oscars.
In praising Siriano’s work, Goldberg appreciated his ability to make her feel not only fashionable but comfortable as well. “He’s one of the best there ever was,” she said.
