NEW YORK CITY, NEW YORK: Whoopi Goldberg, host of 'The View', delivered a scathing critique of President Donald Trump’s latest tariff policies on the Monday, April 7 episode of the daytime talk show.

In her typical style, she didn’t sugarcoat a thing, revealing that she'd be "out of work" if she acted like Trump did.

Donald Trump's tariff move sparked fury on 'The View'

During the episode's panel discussion, 'The View' hosts tackled Donald Trump’s controversial move to impose a blanket 10% tariff on all foreign imports, a decision that hits countries like South Korea, Japan, India, and the European Union even harder with elevated levies.

The move has not only stirred tensions with longtime trade partners but also triggered retaliation, with China’s Ministry of Finance slapping a massive 34% tax on imported US goods.

Goldberg wasn’t buying the logic behind Trump's tariffs.

"He keeps talking about we’re gonna build all these factories. How can you build factories when you put tariffs on all the building products people need to build?" she asked, visibly exasperated. "People can’t build these products like this. What are you thinking?"

Whoopi Goldberg warns of price surge and recession risks

Whoopi Goldberg called the tariff policy flat-out "dumb" and highlighted the far-reaching economic consequences, especially for everyday Americans.

She cited figures pointing to an estimated $714 billion in extra costs for importing essential goods like shoes and electronics, which could increase in price by 70%.

She noted that a JP Morgan analysis now places the likelihood of a US recession at 60%, up from 40%.

For Goldberg, the lack of foresight is baffling.

"When you come in and slash and burn, see, that’s not smart business. That’s just dumb. I’m sorry. That’s just dumb," she said.

Instead of an aggressive, unilateral move, Goldberg urged a more diplomatic approach, noting what she would’ve done differently.

"It would be nice if you go through and you say, 'Hey, country. We’re paying too much. Let’s talk about how we can do this better. Let’s negotiate.' That’s how business works. Not this," she expressed.

Whoopi Goldberg says she'd be 'out of work' if she treated her job like Donald Trump does

Trying to rein in her frustration, Whoopi Goldberg admitted that she typically aims to stay respectful in her criticism, but this time, the gloves came off.

"I am always gonna try to get my words to be the correct words that don’t irritate people, but I’m to the point where I need somebody to explain to me what the hell is going on. Because I don’t get it. It doesn’t make any sense," she said, her voice laced with disbelief.

And her final punchline? A brutally honest comparison between herself and the president.

"If I did this, if I treated my job the way this man is treating this job, I’d be out of work," she declared.
