CHARLESTON, SOUTH CAROLINA: Senator Tim Scott, lifelong bachelor and lone Black Republican senator, set the internet abuzz over the weekend with the announcement of his engagement to girlfriend Mindy Noce, as reported by The New York Post.

Scott popped the big question on Saturday evening, January 20, during a picturesque beach proposal in his home state of South Carolina. The senator then took to X a day later to share joyful photos of him down on one knee with the caption "She said YES!"

The 58-year-old senator, who briefly ran for president last year, proposed to Noce, an interior designer and mother of three, on Saturday evening on Kiawah Island beach near Charleston.

"She said YES," Scott posted on social media along with photos of him down on one knee. "Mindy, thank you for making me the luckiest man in the world."

Scott and Noce met about a year ago after being introduced at church and bonded over their Christian faith and Bible studies.

"In our first conversation that went about an hour and a half or two, we ended up deciding to do a Bible study together," Scott told the Washington Post.

Scott received permission from Noce’s parents to propose before Christmas as he mulled over ideas. A suggestion to pop the question after a game of pickleball, a sport the two often play together, was apparently rejected by a friend.

"I’ve been very patient and prayerful, and I’m really excited and somewhat nervous, and I couldn’t be more thankful for having found a soul mate and someone who shares a lot of the same interests, passions and goals that I do," Scott said.

Noce was spotted wearing her engagement ring at church on Sunday morning, Janaury 21. She was previously married with three children while Scott has remained a bachelor his whole life up until now.

"My joke is as soon as I saw her picture, I figured it out. But the truth is about two weeks into it, I knew there was something very different about her and her faith," Scott said to the Post.

Internet reacts to Tim Scott's engagement announcement to Mindy Noce

The announcement of Senator Scott's engagement to Noce sparked a wave of reactions on social media.

One X user expressed their joy, saying, "Congrats to both of them." Another, clearly moved by the couple's happiness, commented, "Aww, they look so happy! Congratulations!!"

The outpouring of positivity continued with a third user chiming in, "Good to see. What a nice couple. The best of luck to them!"

However, amid the celebratory messages, speculation about Senator Scott's political aspirations emerged. A user recalled a similar scenario, stating, "Preparing to run for VP? I remember when Charlie Crist did the same thing."

This sentiment was echoed by a fifth user who confidently asserted, "He will be the VP pick, 100% guaranteed, this is the move!" Adding a touch of humor, a sixth user remarked, "Congrats, guess now you just may qualify as a running mate."
