LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Pop icon Britney Spears is planning a major comeback in 2024 with her first new album in almost eight years, enlisting fellow pop star Charli XCX to help write songs for the highly-anticipated project.

The Sun reports that Spears hopes the album will mark a triumphant return to the charts on the 25th anniversary of her chart-topping debut album.

Spears has been working behind the scenes with British singer-songwriter Charli XCX, known for smash hits like 'Boom Clap' and '1999'.  While the two artists have yet to meet in person, Spears reportedly guided Charli on the themes and topics she wanted the music to explore.

“Charli has a great track record when it comes to writing clever pop songs,” a music insider told The Sun. “She went into the studio earlier in the year to make some songs using Britney’s guidance of what she is after. She came up with a really strong track that is expected to make it onto the album.”

As a songwriter, Charli XCX has penned major hits for artists like Shawn Mendes, Camila Cabello, Selena Gomez, and Blondie. Her involvement signals that Spears is aiming high for her musical comeback.

Britney Spears hopes new album will mark triumphant chart return

Spears intends the new album, slated for release in 2024, to be a monumental career milestone. Next year marks the 25th anniversary of her smash hit debut 'Baby One More Time,' which launched the then-teenage pop star to global superstardom.

“She is known as one of the biggest pop stars of the 21st century so there is pressure for the music to be great,” the insider noted. “Work has been going on behind the scenes for quite a while to gather a series of killer songs to bring Britney back with a bang.”

While Spears took a step back from music during her high-profile conservatorship court battle, she returned to the charts in 2022 with Elton John's collaboration 'Hold Me Closer', which hit #3. Earlier this year she was also featured on Will.i.am’s single 'Mind Your Business'.

But her upcoming album would mark Spears’ first full-length solo effort since 2016’s 'Glory'.
