Internet split as Kelly Osbourne recalls backlash after 'If you kick every Latino out' viral clip
LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Kelly Osbourne is opening up about what she describes as the "worst" and "most painful" moment of her life.
In 2015, during a discussion on 'The View' about Donald Trump's comments on immigration, Osbourne made a controversial statement that went viral.
Kelly Osbourne reflects on controversial interview
"If you kick every Latino out of this country, then who is going to be cleaning your toilets, Donald Trump?" she said during the show.
Osbourne, now 39, recently spoke about this incident in an interview with Rolling Stone, acknowledging the impact and the backlash she faced. She referred to it as the "most cringe moment" of her life and expressed remorse for the hurt it caused.
“Oh my God, I died,” she said.
“It hurt a lot of people, and that to me, is by far makes it the worst thing I’ve ever done. I realized that I’m not great on live TV and that words are so powerful. And to be labeled as something you’re not is really difficult,” she said, referring to how she was slammed as “racist” after the viral clip.
“It was something that was so painful. And so life-changing, chaotic and crazy in every way. I mean, I received death threats. I used to have this freedom where people liked my crazy opinions and they liked the shock factor of it. And I fed into it a lot because I didn’t understand it. I’ve learned when to shut up and to stop talking. I’m definitely not the person I was before that incident.”
'Fashion Police' co-host said, “It goes to show that people never forget, I’d be lying if I said I didn’t hate myself a little more each time I see it.”
Reflecting on that period in her life, Osbourne mentioned that she was going through a challenging time, dealing with issues like anxiety, depression, and childhood trauma. She also revealed that her father, Ozzy Osbourne, had just cheated on her mother, Sharon Osbourne.
“I had just been in rehab and what I needed was something else. It wasn’t for drugs, it was more my anxiety disorder, my depression disorder, childhood trauma, all of that kind of stuff.”
“I was drinking to numb the pain of everything. I was a trash can when it came to drugs, whatever I could get my hands on,” she explained and added, “And I was a really broken, scared person.”
