WASHINGTON, DC: Donald Trump's niece, Mary Trump, called it 'absurd' to believe that her uncle would voluntarily go to jail if the judge ordered him to for violating the terms of his gag order, The Hill stated.

Mary told MSNBC’s Alex Witt on Saturday, May 11, "I think that it’s absurd for anybody to think that he would willingly go into jail for even a night, even an afternoon, honestly."

In his criminal hush money case, Judge Juan Merchan found that Trump had broken the gag order. At the time, each infraction carried a $1,000 fine.

Notably, Mary Trump made her remarks one day after the former president declared he would be 'very proud' to serve a jail sentence for breaking his gag order.

Although the gag order prevents Donald Trump from discussing the jurors, prosecutors, witnesses, or Merchan's family members after he made offensive remarks online, he has maintained that he was simply using his right to free speech.

According to Merchan, Trump may go to jail if he commits further infractions. If he is imprisoned, Mary Trump expressed her hope that 'it's for real'.

According to Mediaite, she said, "It’s not that he’s going to get some suite at a fancy hotel that’s guarded. He is there in a cell, without his phone, just like any other American would be."

She believes that her uncle would change if he were to spend time in jail for the infraction. She said, "Honestly, I just don’t think he could handle it. He would love the martyrdom, but I don’t believe for a second that he is willing to go to jail for real. No way."

Internet trolls Mary Trump for her statement on Donald Trump

Several internet users trolled Mary Trump as she said that her uncle, Donald Trump, would not voluntarily go to jail if the judge ordered him to for violating the terms of his gag order.

A user wrote on X, "You should be in jail" while one said, "What's absurd is giving Mary Trump any attention."

A person also stated, "Who cares what this old shrew has to say about it?" whereas one mentioned, "Mary hates Trump because she inherits ZERO of his wealth who cares what this hater says. Y’all democrats already F up."
