LONDON, ENGLAND: Charles Spencer, the brother of late Princess Diana has expressed his support for Kate Middleton amid her cancer battle, a day after her announcement.

Charles Spencer, uncle to her husband Prince William, commended Middleton on Instagram.

Charles Spencer praises Kate Middleton's strength

The ninth Earl Spencer wrote on Instagram, "Incredible poise and strength."

Along with the message, Spencer included a screenshot of Kate's video and a caption from her statement that read, "to process and manage this privately."

In the video, Diana's daughter-in-law ended her silence by announcing her cancer diagnosis to the world. This came after weeks of speculation about her health following abdominal surgery in January.

Kate revealed her diagnosis in a video recorded by BBC Studios at Windsor on March 20 after undergoing a major operation.

"At the time, it was thought that my condition was non-cancerous," she said in the video, adding, "The surgery was successful. However, tests after the operation found cancer had been present."

Kate added, "My medical team, therefore, advised that I should undergo a course of preventative chemotherapy and I am now in the early stages of that treatment."

Kate Middleton said she was managing it privately for children

Kate, who shares children Prince George, 10, Princess Charlotte, eight, and Prince Louis, five, with Prince William, added, "This of course came as a huge shock."

She said, "William and I have been doing everything we can to process and manage this privately for the sake of our young family."

The 59-year-old had recently compared the media scrutiny of Kate to that of his late sister. “I think it was more dangerous back in the day,” Earl Spencer told BBC.

"I think, if I look back to '97 and Diana's death, I think that was so shocking too - the circumstances of her death were so shocking, that it did make the industry that supports the paparazzi really consider more carefully what it could and couldn't do," he said.

"Not because they had a moral judgement, but because it was unacceptable to the public," he added.
