Yvette Nicole Brown slams celebs performing at Donald Trump's inauguration: 'It’s a full-on endorsement'
WASHINGTON, DC: Yvette Nicole Brown made her stance on performing at Donald Trump's inauguration crystal clear during an appearance on 'TMZ Live'.
When hosts Harvey Robert Levin and Charles Latibeaudiere suggested that singing at Donald Trump’s 2017 inauguration doesn’t necessarily mean endorsing him, Brown was quick to shut it down.
“I completely disagree,” she told TMZ. For Brown, performing at his event isn’t an innocent act—it’s a full-on endorsement of his actions and policies.
“You know there’s a difference between us saying we don’t support a racist, horrible man, and that same racist horrible man saying the election was stolen,” she explained. “Nobody is saying the election was stolen, we’re saying we’re not celebrating the coronation of this horrible man, this felon.”
Yvette Nicole Brown has no room for racism
Yvette Nicole Brown wasn’t about to sugarcoat her feelings about Donald Trump or the people willing to stand by him. She made it clear that anyone participating in his inauguration is aligning themselves with his ideals, whether they realize it or not.
“Why would you want to co-sign a man like this?” she asked. "Let me tell you this from a Black woman’s perspective. I don’t make any space for racism or white supremacy. If you dip your toe in, you want to keep your toe over there."
"So the idea that you can hear this man talk about Latinos the way he has, about LGBTQ people, and what he’s done to women. You can see this man. This is who this man is," Brown said.
"He incited an insurrection at the Capitol. That’s who he is. And you can go, ‘But I’m gonna sing this little ditty 'cause I got an album coming up.’ I don’t wanna perform for that," she added.
Yvette Nicole Brown on Michelle Obama skipping the inauguration
Yvette Nicole Brown also weighed in on former first lady Michelle Obama’s decision to skip Donald Trump's inauguration on Monday, January 20. “Let me tell you she’s standing on business,” Brown said.
"Kamala has to go because she’s the vice president that’s leaving. But Michelle Obama [already] did that when that rat king came in the first time. She sucked it up and she was there but she does not have to," she declared.
“I support our queen as she goes to the spa or has a mimosa or watches MLK speeches and gets what he actually tried to teach us on that day. I want her in a bonnet with her feet up," she added.
Stars performing at Donald Trump's inauguration
Big names like Carrie Underwood and the Village People are set to perform at Donald Trump’s inauguration events, a decision that drew flak, particularly from the LGBTQI+ community.
In response, the Village People defended their involvement. "We know this won't make some of you happy to hear, however, we believe that music is to be performed without regard to politics," the group wrote.
"Our song Y.M.C.A. is a global anthem that hopefully helps bring the country together after a tumultuous and divided campaign where our preferred candidate lost," they said, referring to Vice President Kamala Harris.
"Therefore, we believe it's now time to bring the country together with music which is why VILLAGE PEOPLE will be performing at various events as part of the 2025 Inauguration of Donald J Trump," they added.
Kid Rock, who noted on Fox News that he performed at Barack Obama’s 2009 inauguration, is also performing. “Years back, when Obama was first elected, I did not vote for him,” he recalled on 'Jesse Watters Primetime'. “But they asked me to play the inauguration, and I played it, and I went, had a good time.
