Zac Efron speaks out after being hospitalized over swimming pool incident at luxury villa in Ibiza
NEW YORK CITY, NEW YORK: Zac Efron reportedly had an "incident in a swimming pool" at a villa in Ibiza, Spain, which led to his hospitalization.
The 'High School Musical' star, 36, was found in the pool by two workers at the villa, who pulled him out of the water.
Zac Efron health update
Zac Efron addressed the incident on his Instagram Stories on August 4. He posted a photo of himself working out shirtless, lifting barbells while lying on an exercise ball, with the caption: "Happy and Healthy, thanks for the well wishes."
According to sources who spoke to TMZ, Efron was hospitalized as a "precautionary measure" following the "minor" incident and is "recovering just fine." He was released from the hospital on Saturday morning. However, Efron's representative did not provide specific details about why he needed to be rescued from the pool, reiterating that the hospital visit was merely precautionary.
Before the incident, Efron joined Dutch DJ Martin Garrix on stage during one of his shows. He has been spending time in Ibiza and Europe over the past few weeks. Just two weeks ago, he was spotted on a yacht with friends in Ibiza, following a trip to St Tropez earlier in the month.
Zac Efron's past injuries and rumors
The latest incident is not Efron's first serious mishap. Over a decade ago, he shattered his jaw after slipping on a pair of socks at home, causing him to hit his chin on a granite fountain. In a 2022 interview with Men's Health Magazine, Efron revealed that he lost consciousness and woke up with his "chin bone hanging off his face."
The injury caused his masseter muscles to grow in size as they compensated for the damage, resulting in a noticeable change in his appearance. "The masseters just grew. They just got really, really big," he said.
Efron has faced numerous rumors about plastic surgery due to his transformed appearance. He explained that the changes were solely due to his jaw injury. Efron admitted that he was unaware of the viral social media discussions about his new look until his mother asked if he had undergone surgery.
He told Men's Health Magazine, "If I valued what other people thought of me to the extent that they may think I do, I definitely wouldn't be able to do this work."
In April 2021, Efron trended on Twitter after appearing in a video for 'Earth Day! The Musical,' showing a more prominent square chin and heavier jawline. This fueled speculation about plastic surgery, but Efron's friend, Australian radio host Kyle Sandilands, defended him on 'The Kyle and Jackie O Show.'
Sandilands asserted that Efron would never have plastic surgery, comparing the idea to defacing a masterpiece. "I would know if he'd had any plastic surgery," he declared, adding, "It's like getting a Picasso and having a kid finger paint all over it. Why bother?"
Recently, Efron appeared in the Netflix film "A Family Affair" alongside Nicole Kidman, which once again sparked discussions about his appearance among fans, the Daily Mail reported.
