Zendaya unfollows Tom Holland and everyone else on Instagram after promoting 'Challengers' in last post
LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Zendaya, the 27-year-old 'Euphoria' sensation, has kicked off the new year by unfollowing everyone on her Instagram account, a list that notably included her boyfriend, Tom Holland.
The move, made on Thursday, January 4, left fans speculating about the reason behind the actress's social media cleanse.
Zendaya initiates New Year with Instagram cleanse
While the motive behind Zendaya's decision remains unknown, her last post on Monday, January 1, was a cryptic message reading, "Challengers April 26th," she wrote on Monday, January 1, alongside a poster of her upcoming film directed by Luca Guadagnino.
The star also expressed her wishes for a beautiful new year in the post. She wrote, “Wishing you all the most beautiful new year," along with the poster of 'Challengers'.
While Zendaya wiped her Instagram clean, her boyfriend, Tom Holland, 27, still follows her but rarely posts on the app. It was in August 2022 that the British actor first announced he would take a break from social media.
“I find Instagram and Twitter to be overstimulating, to be overwhelming,” Holland said in a social media video at the time. “I get caught up and I spiral when I read things about me online, and ultimately it’s very detrimental to my mental state. So, I decided to take a step back and delete the app.”
"I just felt like I was so addicted to this kind of false version of my life that it was just taking over,” Holland told Entertainment Weekly in July 2023 of deciding to delete the app from his phone. He had said, “It was becoming a problem. I was just obsessed with it. And I was obsessed to find out what people were saying.”

Zendaya and Tom Holland, who have been dating since they collaborated on the 'Spider-Man' movies, have maintained a discreet approach to their relationship. Before the recent social media cleanse, Holland often used Instagram to express support for Zendaya through "likes" and flirty comments. The couple has actively kept their personal lives private, aiming to avoid unnecessary public speculation about their relationship dynamics.
"Zendaya and Tom really did their best to keep their romance under wraps when they first started dating. Before they began seeing each other, they had both always been very private when it came to their personal lives,” a source exclusively told Us Weekly in June 2023.
The source added, “It was something that bonded them in the early stages of their relationship because they were both on the same page when it came to avoiding public speculation.”
Holland and Zendaya are no longer hiding their romance, according to the insider. “That has shifted over time and they acknowledge that everyone knows they’re together,” the insider added at the time and said, “Tom is proud to call Zendaya his girlfriend and express how much he loves her because he wants the world to know.”
