Zoe Kravitz gushes over ex Channing Tatum’s 'charisma' two months after breakup
LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: After keeping a low profile since her October 29 split from fiance Channing Tatum, Zoe Kravitz has publicly addressed their relationship for the first time.
Fans expecting harsh remarks were taken aback as Kravitz spoke highly of Tatum, praising his work and offering only kind words about her ex in a recent interview.
The couple, who first connected in New York and began mentioning each other in 2022 interviews, got engaged in October 2023. Sadly, their relationship ended after a year, as they discovered they were at different life stages.
Zoe Kravitz speaks out for first time about Channing Tatum after split
In a December 18 interview on Variety's Directors on Directors Zoe Kravitz praised Channing Tatum while discussing the casting process and their collaboration on her film 'Blink Twice', where she directed and starred alongside him.
Kravitz shared, “Channing was the first person I thought of for Slater King, and I don’t know where that came from, similar to you,” referring to her initial choice of Tatum.
The 'Big Little Lies' actress explained why Tatum was the perfect fit for the role: “I knew that the character needed to be somebody who we think we trust, especially because you don’t believe Naomi [Ackie] is getting on that plane if it’s someone who is immediately insidious.”
Kravitz highlighted Tatum's unique qualities: "I wanted to weaponize his charisma. We’ve never seen him do something like that.”
This interview marked the first time Kravitz has spoken about Tatum since their breakup. Previously, in a 2021 interview with Deadline, she had expressed admiration for him, saying, “[He was the one] I thought of when I wrote this character. I just knew from 'Magic Mike' and his live shows, I got the sense he's a true feminist and I wanted to collaborate with someone who was clearly interested in exploring this subject matter.”
Zoe Kravitz and Channing Tatum shared their experiences working together before their split
Before their split, Zoe Kravitz and Channing Tatum teamed up for the film's press tour, where they spoke about their collaborative experience.
At the 'Blink Twice' premiere in Los Angeles, Tatum told PEOPLE, "To get to create something with someone that you love is probably one of the most gratifying things."
Kravitz shared her thoughts at the same event, saying, "We got to work together and go through hard things together and support each other, and it was beautiful."
In another conversation with PEOPLE, Kravitz praised Tatum’s performance, stating, "He was doing such a good job, and as an actor, I'm like, ‘This is delicious stuff that he's never gotten a chance to do.' And also, he's doing this part because he's an ally. He wants to tell this story."
Although the couple officially split in October 2024, they plan to continue working together. A source said, "They will continue to work together and are excited about a new project. They both love filming and creating. Channing has a lot of respect for Zoë's focus and passion."
It’s also worth noting that the couple has another project in the works together, titled 'Alpha Gang'.
