NEW YORK CITY, NEW YORK: Let’s face it, being a New York Jets fan is not easy. Remember the infamous Butt Fumble? Or how about when Bill Belichick ditched the Jets for their rival, the New England Patriots? Those are just some of the many painful memories that haunt Jets fans.

But honestly, just about anything since the team’s shocking Super Bowl III win over the Baltimore Colts in 1969 could fit the bill.

Now, after Sunday night’s brutal 37-15 loss to the Pittsburgh Steelers, the Jets found themselves sinking to 2-5 on the season. And as if that wasn’t bad enough, Aaron Rodgers gave fans a new reason to cringe—because it sure looked like he was caught on camera... well, let’s just say he wasn’t exactly keeping his hands in check.

During the game, NBC’s cameras caught a glimpse of Rodgers on the sidelines apparently eating his own boogers. One Jets fan took to social media to share the footage and wrote, “Jets season is going up in flames and Aaron Rodgers is on the sideline eating his boogers.”

For Rodgers, the night was already shaping up to be a disaster. He was reunited with his former Packers buddy Davante Adams but managed to connect with him on just 3 out of 9 targets.

Of course, trolls on the internet didn’t hold back — turning the random sideline moment into comedy gold.

One fan joked that it was Rodgers’ “third pick of the game."

"The first 2 picks went to Steelers players. Last pick he kept for himself," a second quipped.

"Maybe Aaron's boogers give him the power to throw Hail Mary touchdowns and he's in short supply," another added.

"Yeah have him benched for the rest of the season," read a comment.

"At this point, he might as well start a podcast about snack choices on the sidelines!" someone else chimed in.

"Always knew this guy was a little crazy, but turns out he’s gross as well," another offered.

To make matters worse for Rodgers, some fans even pined for Zach Wilson. Yes, the same Zach Wilson who struggled as a starter with the Jets and eventually found himself as a backup in Denver.

Last year, Wilson managed to keep the Jets at 4-3 when Rodgers went down with an injury. Now, under Rodgers, the Jets are staring at a 2-5 record, and fans are already dreading another painful rebuild.

“Someone needs to inoculate America from having to watch this washed-up conspiracy-hound, fake smart guy QB and his horses*** offense on national TV all the time,” longtime NFL columnist Jason La Canfora ranted on X. “I wish I was immune to their garbage offense. Is there a shot for that? Who is Rodgers gonna blame for this s***show?”

Aaron Rodgers fires back at critics amid Jets' woes

After the game, Aaron Rodgers wasn’t too happy about all the slander coming his way. When asked how the team could keep believing in themselves, he attacked the media by saying, “Stop listening to you guys, number one.” But even he couldn’t dodge all the blame, admitting, “I gotta play better.”

And he’s right—Rodgers hasn’t been playing up to his usual standards this season. After making a comeback from that torn Achilles in 2023, he’s completing just 61.7% of his passes, with 1,663 yards, 10 touchdowns, and 7 interceptions. His quarterback rating sits at 82.2, which would be the lowest of his career if it holds up.

Sure, Rodgers made his fair share of mistakes on Sunday night — but he wasn’t the only one struggling. One of the game’s turning points came when the Jets were trailing 16-15 in the third quarter. Rodgers sent a pass down the sideline to Garrett Wilson, but the ball bounced off Wilson’s hands and right into the grasp of Steelers rookie cornerback Beanie Bishop Jr.

Bishop took the interception 41 yards, setting the Steelers up at the Jets’ 1-yard line. From there, they punched it in for a touchdown — putting the game even further out of reach, Athlon Sports reported.

Now, the Jets are headed to Foxborough for a matchup with the 1-6 Patriots—the only team sitting below them in the AFC East standings. The Jets managed to dominate the Patriots 24-3 earlier in the season at home in East Rutherford. But this time with their season hanging in the balance, Rodgers and the Jets are under pressure to show they still have some fight left.
