Adele's 'secret' residence in England was once hounded by Scientologists
WEST SUSSEX, UNITED KINGDOM: Adele had been relentlessly pursued by a specific group of buyers, Scientologists, for her West Sussex mansion, revealed her friend Alan Carr.
The comedian told The Mirror, "Adele has a secret house in East Grinstead and the Scientologists tried to buy it off her." He explained that the religious group wanted the property to expand their land portfolio in the town that hosts the former global headquarters of the Church of Scientology.
Adele previously bought a Tudor-style West Sussex mansion to have an 'unflashy existence'
Adele purchased Ridge Hill Manor in 2017 when money flowed into her account following the success of her second album '21'. She resided in the manor with her former husband, Simon Konecki, and their son, Angelo.
Per She Knows, an insider shared at the time, "She has deliberately chosen the least showbiz place she can think of so she can live a normal, unflashy existence."
The Tudor-style mansion proved to be the quaint country cottage that Adele was looking for with exposed beam ceilings, large inglenook fireplaces, a tennis court, three guest cottages, and a helicopter pad.
She didn't end up staying long and reportedly sold the property in 2020 after her divorce from Konecki.
Not much is known about the property Carr is referring to; however, as the comic pointed out, Adele has successfully brushed off the Scientologists for now.
East Grinstead's ties to Scientology
The 18th-century Saint Hill Manor, located near Adele's current house, once served as the abode of L Ron Hubbard, the founder of Scientology
Hubbard purchased the 1792-built country house in 1959, and the building was the mysterious religion's global headquarters till 1967. It's currently the British headquarters of the Church of Scientology.
Every year, the annual Saint Hill Gala sees a congregation of celebrities from the sect.
Tom Cruise, one of the most famous members of the Church of Scientology is known to visit the manor often. He allegedly used a wing of the manor as his abode during the Covid-19 pandemic.
Another popular member of Scientology, John Travolta, had been known to visit the town previously. On one occasion in 2011, he unsuccessfully tried to book a table at the local KFC for his entourage.
