Al Roker reveals how he maintained his 100-lb weight loss for over 20 years: ‘There’s no magic bullet’

LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Al Roker recently opened up about his health and how he’s continued to maintain his 100-lb weight loss for more than two decades.
In a new interview published by PEOPLE, the weathercaster, whose full name is Albert Lincoln Roker Jr, shared, “Moderation rather than deprivation is better in the long run. If you deprive yourself of stuff that you like, eventually you’re going to snap and go crazy.”
The 70-year-old further divulged that his “mantra is something is better than nothing.”
AI Roker’s father made him promise to get healthy

“Maybe you’ll be running marathons or entering weight-lifting contests, but I think most people just want a level of fitness that improves their quality of life,” Al Roker added.
Roker, who is the father of three children, also revealed that his father, Albert Lincoln Roker Sr, died in 2001 before he turned 70, but “he made me promise I would get healthy.”
“He wasn’t going to be there for his grandchildren and he wanted to make sure I was,” the journalist said.
Al Roker claims ‘there’s no magic bullet’ to be in shape
According to the television personality, his morning routine is the same every day, which starts with ten minutes of weight training moves from Start TODAY’s app.

“It’s not so much to bulk up but to keep your bones strong, keep your flexibility, which is important as you age,” he told the publication.
However, Roker also confessed that it’s difficult to be in a routine all the time and “there’s no magic bullet.”
“Sometimes you have to push yourself to do the things you need to do,” he added. The author spilled that he checks his weight every day since “it keeps you more grounded.”
“No one’s perfect—you’re going to screw up. Lord knows I have. But you just gotta say, ‘That was then. And now we’re here. What are we gonna do now?’ You have to have that chat with yourself,” he stated.

Al Roker wants to see his granddaughter grow up
During the interview, he also admitted to his growing age and said, “I do realize now that I need more sleep. When you’re 70, you know you’re looking at the downslope. I think you just try to enjoy yourself more.”
But Roker hopes to see his granddaughter, Sky Clara Laga, daughter of Courtney Roker Laga, “enter high school. And God, it would be unbelievable to see her graduate and go to college. I’m going to take what I can.”
