Alexandra Grant shares rare insight into her life with Keanu Reeves: ‘He's so appreciative’
LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Alexandra Grant has given a rare glimpse into the life and relationship she and Keanu Reeves share. The 53-year-old visual artist has been with the A-list actor since 2019.
The pair’s first meeting was professional regarding Reeves’ poetry book – ‘Ode to Happiness’ — which was illustrated by Grant. The two even went on to co-found a publishing house before going public about their relationship.
Alexandra Grant says key to their successful relationship is 'mutual respect'
On Thursday, May 28, during a launch event for her new wine brand LOVEwine in Los Angeles, Grant revealed how she and the ‘John Wick’ star navigate their work and personal lives.
“He's always so appreciative, so he's always cautious, I think, with feedback, and I would say the same,” she shared.
Explaining her and the musician’s equation, she noted that they “could talk about any problem or challenge or creative idea and talk about it forever if that is needed, and also respect the individual need to dive deep and have a process that's maybe quiet or in another collaboration,” before asserting, “So I'd say the key to it is the mutual respect.”
Alexandra Grant mentions importance of personal space between partners
Grant further mentioned how being creative makes them understand each other better.
“I will say that what I think we share is just the belief in projects. Every project has its own autonomy, its own team, it has its own sort of rules, and it has a beginning, middle, and end. So we both are people who do projects, and you know, I've lived with John Wick, I've lived with Neo,” she added, referring to the 61-year-old actor’s characters in the ‘John Wick’ movies and as Neo in ‘The Matrix’ films.
"When he's in a character, for example, I have so much respect for that understanding that this is the middle to the end of a project, right? And I think the same goes for painting. "When I'm in painter mode, I am in it. I'm fully in it," she added.
During the launch event, Grant also revealed how she grew an interest in wine. As a middle school child, she was in Paris with her mother, an American diplomat stationed in France, when a server at a restaurant suggested she try the wine with the prix fixe menu.
“My mom said, you know, she's only 12. Can you give her a Coca-Cola or water? The waitress stormed off and came back and put a giant glass of wine in front of me and said, ‘Madame, la Coca Cola, ‘c'est mauvais pour votre enfant.' [‘It is bad for your child,’ translated to English.] And that was the introduction to the culture of wine,” Grant added.
